Couchbase, Inc., a prominent developer data platform known for catering to critical applications in the AI landscape, has recently announced significant changes in its leadership team. Effective immediately, BJ Schaknowski has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer and Amir Jafari as the Chief Financial Officer. This announcement follows the departure of Matt Cain, who stepped down from his roles as Chair, President, and CEO.

New CEO BJ Schaknowski

BJ Schaknowski brings with him over two decades of valuable experience within the software industry. Prior to joining Couchbase, he served as the CEO of symplr, where he successfully launched a pioneering non-clinical integrated Operations Platform for the U.S. healthcare sector and saw substantial growth, tripling the company's size during his tenure. Previously, Schaknowski held key positions in several notable companies including Vertafore, known for its insurance technology, and was involved in senior leadership roles at LexisNexis Software Solutions, CA Technologies, Intuit, and Sage Software. Moreover, his background includes service in the United States Marine Corps, showcasing a well-rounded leadership profile.

In his role at Couchbase, Schaknowski expressed excitement about the company's position as a market leader in modern databases, especially given its focus on high-performance applications and generative AI use cases. "It's an honor to join Couchbase at such a transformative moment in its journey. I'm thrilled to collaborate with our customers, partners, and exceptional team to accelerate our vision and unlock new opportunities for Couchbase," he stated.

New CFO Amir Jafari

Joining Schaknowski in the executive team is Amir Jafari, whose wealth of experience in scaling technology companies through various growth stages will be instrumental for Couchbase's financial strategies. Before taking on the CFO role at Couchbase, Jafari was with Blend Labs as the Chief Financial Officer, where he managed finance and operations. His prior experience also includes CFO roles at multiple companies and crucial financial positions at ServiceNow. Jafari is expected to bring a robust understanding of financial transformation and operational excellence to the company, helping to align Couchbase's strategy with execution effectively.

Reflecting on his new position, Jafari said, "I'm incredibly excited to join Couchbase and its experienced team as we endeavor to scale our impact, drive operational excellence, and spark innovation that delivers transformative value to our customers worldwide."

Looking Ahead

The appointments of Schaknowski and Jafari signify a pivotal chapter for Couchbase as it aims to enhance its presence in the competitive landscape of AI-driven applications.
