Power-X and Nishimu Electronic Deliver First Solar Battery System in Japan

Introduction

In a significant move towards enhancing renewable energy management in Japan, Power-X, based in Okayama, and Nishimu Electronic of Fukuoka, have completed the delivery of an innovative solar battery system. This pioneering project was established in collaboration with SMFL Mirai Partners, which oversees the operations of the Aoyagi Solar Park I located in Koga City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The system, which integrates with the existing solar power station, is set to commence operations in June 2025.

Project Highlights

The Aoyagi Solar Park I began its operations in August 2018, marking an essential step in Japan’s shift towards clean energy alternatives. The newly integrated solar battery system features three Mega Power batteries from Power-X, boasting an impressive total capacity of 8,226 kWh. This will allow the solar power station to efficiently store energy harvested during daylight, making it available during peak demand times in the evening and at night.

Furthermore, the Solar Park has transitioned from the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) to the Feed-in Premium (FIP) system, creating new opportunities for energy sales. This change not only promotes the efficient use of solar energy but also aids power producers by mitigating potential losses incurred due to output restrictions.

Technology and Features

The innovative battery system incorporates cutting-edge energy management technology via Nishimu Electronic’s TAMERBA Energy Management System (EMS). This setup provides a comprehensive solution that includes the battery storage, power conditioning systems (PCS), and associated electrical equipment—all produced by domestic manufacturers. The one-stop service also encompasses system monitoring, inspections, and maintenance, ensuring high operational standards.

  • - Capacity: The system's total battery capacity can provide power equivalent to the daily consumption of approximately 720 households.
  • - Charging/Discharging Output: At an output of 1,750 kW, this system is poised to address significant energy demands during peak hours.
  • - Collaboration: This project stands as the first implementation of a solar energy battery system offered by Power-X and Nishimu Electronic, showcasing their collaborative strengths.

Future Outlook

The success of this initial project is just the beginning. Both companies express their commitment to leveraging the insights gained from this endeavor to facilitate the incorporation of solar battery systems in solar power stations across Japan. This initiative aims to maximize the utilization of renewable energy while helping stabilize the electricity grid.

As Japan moves toward a more sustainable future, projects like the Aoyagi Solar Park’s solar battery system could serve as a model for future developments in renewable energy technology.

Conclusion

With the increasing unpredictability of renewable energy output due to weather variations, integrating storage solutions like the one installed at Aoyagi is crucial. By maximizing efficiency and ensuring a stable supply, Power-X and Nishimu Electronic are paving the way for a more resilient energy future in Japan.
