Survey Reveals Insights on New Power Utilization by Single Residents

Insights from the Recent Survey on New Power Utilization

Cocomoora recently conducted an insightful survey targeting individuals living alone who have switched to new electric power services. The results offer intriguing perspectives on how these users perceive their electricity costs and the factors influencing their power bills.

Overview of the Findings

The survey uncovered that 37.3% of respondents felt that their electricity bills remained the same after switching to a new power provider, surpassing the 28.8% who reported a decrease in costs. On the flip side, 17.0% of participants felt that their expenses had increased, indicating a varied experience among users regarding their electricity costs post-switch.

Main Factors Behind Higher Electricity Bills

When asked about the reasons for higher bills, over 61% attributed it to increased air conditioning usage. Other notable factors included usage of heating appliances like kotatsu or heaters (25.4%) and an increase in at-home activity (23.7%). This suggests a notable correlation between seasonal changes, lifestyle choices, and electricity consumption.

Seasonal Patterns in Electricity Costs

Interestingly, the survey highlighted that winter is the season where electricity costs tend to be highest, with 47.5% of respondents indicating this trend, overshadowing the 32.2% who identified summer (primarily cooling costs) as their peak period. Alarmingly, the highest monthly bills from the past year were reported to be in the range of 5,001 to 8,000 yen by 33.9% of respondents, aligning with the periods of heightened heating or cooling needs.

Survey Methodology

This survey utilized internet research methods, employing Freezy as the tool for gathering data. The participants were individuals aged 20 and above, all living alone and utilizing new electric service providers. The response pool comprised a mix of 35 males and 24 females, yielding a total of 59 valid responses during the period between February 4 and February 6, 2026.

Participants’ Electricity Expense Insights

Details about electricity expenditures were revealed, showing that:
  • - Only 1.69% reported bills under 3,000 yen.
  • - A significant 33.9% spent between 5,001 and 8,000 yen, reflecting the strain of managing household energy costs.

Respondents shared their thoughts on the lowest monthly expenses over the year as well. Notably, 23.73% reported bills below 3,000 yen during the most cost-effective month, while 40.68% fell between 3,001 and 5,000 yen.

Current Electric Providers in Use

The survey also captured where individuals sourced their electricity from:
  • - Tokyo Gas accounted for 16.95%.
  • - Other providers included au Electric and CD Energy Direct at 11.86% and 8.47% respectively.

Collectively, this illustrates significant diversity in choice among users of new electric services.

Conclusions and Implications

Cocomoora aims to support users in making informed decisions concerning their electricity options. The feedback gathered from this survey allows for a better understanding of consumers' feelings and behaviors regarding electric service usage, especially in urban settings where dynamics often shift based on lifestyle changes and seasonal demands. And as individuals seek to optimize costs amid changing living conditions, understanding these patterns will empower them to make better choices regarding their electricity service providers.
