LIVENT Launches Eco-Friendly Orchid Gift Service 'ecoRan' to Address Flower Waste Issues

LIVENT's New Initiative: 'ecoRan'

On March 16, 2026, LIVENT Co., Ltd., headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, will launch 'ecoRan,' a circular gift service that includes free pickup for all orchids sold. This flower brand aims to challenge the conventional practice of gifting without considering environmental impact. By offering this innovative service during the spring gifting season, they strive to combat the disposal issues in the floral industry while adhering to their mission of "Eternal Sentiments."

What is 'ecoRan'?

The core of the 'ecoRan' service is to provide all orchids delivered within LIVENT's designated delivery area with a complimentary pickup coupon. After enjoying the flowers, recipients can request a free removal service for their orchids through a simple QR code provided on the coupon. This process ensures that the orchids are returned to professionals who will responsibly sort and reuse them, promoting a sustainable lifecycle for these flowers.

Delivery Area and Free Pickup Details

LIVENT's free pickup service is applicable within specific locations including Tokyo's 23 wards, parts of Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Kawasaki, and certain areas of Yokohama. Unfortunately, if someone orders orchids outside of these areas, the free pickup coupon won't be included. This case-by-case approach aims to encourage positive plant management and recycling within concentrated urban regions.

Addressing Flower Waste

As a traditional corporate gifting choice, orchids often end up being discarded after their bloom period, which raises environmental concerns. Research conducted by LIVENT (via QiQUMO in February 2026) highlighted that nearly 80% of respondents consider the burden of management, disposal, and space when choosing gifts. Organizations and individuals alike are looking for more meaningful, responsible gifting options that are considerate of both the recipient and the environment.

Key Features of 'ecoRan'

1. Free Pickup Coupons: The orchids come with a free pickup coupon, alleviating any disposal concerns for the receiver, making this a thoughtful gift choice. Once the flowers have served their purpose, a simple scan of the QR code provides an effortless way to arrange for pickup.

2. LIVENT's Eco Contribution Certificate: Customers who utilize the 'ecoRan' service will receive a unique eco contribution certificate, allowing them to track their environmentally friendly actions in terms of CO₂ emissions reduced through the service. Specifically, one orchid's recycling saves approximately 1.55 kg of CO₂—equivalent to the absorption yift of a cedar tree over 36-40 years.

3. Flexible Billing for Corporates: Businesses can manage their purchases efficiently with monthly invoice options and tailored solutions for larger orders, simplifying the administrative process.

Comments from LIVENT's CEO

CEO Rikiō Mikami shared his vision, stating, "The floral industry has traditionally seen gifting as a one-way street. 'ecoRan' seeks to redefine this by promoting a more meaningful gift experience, emphasizing environmental responsibility. Our initiative aligns with the goals set by SBTi for greenhouse gas reduction, going beyond simple sales to incorporate a comprehensive recycling strategy. We aim to contribute to a sustainable, circular society through this endeavor."

Future Goals

LIVENT currently ships approximately 2,000 orchids annually, targeting a 30% retrieval rate through 'ecoRan' to return 600 pots yearly. This effort anticipates significant CO₂ reduction, equivalent to the absorption of 106 cedar trees, showcasing their commitment to transforming corporate gifting into a sustainable practice.
