Japan's New Cybersecurity Initiative in Bangkok

In an effort to bolster cybersecurity across the ASEAN region, Japan has officially opened a new training facility in Bangkok, responding to the growing need for enhanced digital security amidst rapid technological advancements. This new center, known as the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Centre (AJCCBC), is part of a broader project supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and aims to strengthen the capacity of ASEAN nations in dealing with cybersecurity threats.

In December 2021, Japan outlined its cybersecurity strategy, which includes support for developing countries. Under this policy framework, JICA has collaborated closely with Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and Thailand's National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) to enhance the training environment for cybersecurity professionals across ASEAN. Inauguration Ceremony Details

On August 18, 2025, the opening ceremony for this new training facility will take place at the Government Complex Building C in Bangkok. The event is poised to gather representatives from both Japan and Thailand, including officials from JICA, the Japanese Embassy in Thailand, and ASEAN member representatives. The structure of the ceremony will feature opening remarks, keynote speeches, a closing address, and the opportunity for participants to engage in hands-on exercises that simulate real-world cyber defense scenarios.

The newly inaugurated facility will enable more flexible and diverse training sessions and workshops, reinforcing cooperation among ASEAN nations in cybersecurity efforts. Additionally, on the same day, AJCCBC will kick off its 38th Cybersecurity Technology Exercise, where participants recommended by member states will partake. This year's exercise will utilize an updated ransomware scenario based on the latest threat trends.
