TCAI's Eighth International Symposium on Cardiac Arrhythmias
On May 28-29, 2026, the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute (TCAI), situated within St. David's Medical Center, achieved a remarkable milestone by hosting its eighth international symposium focusing on complex cardiac arrhythmias. This much-anticipated event attracted an impressive audience of
1,600 participants from various corners of the globe, including notable contributors from
Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, and
Italy. Notably, about
200 attendees gathered in person to engage directly with their peers.
The symposium, known as
EP Live 2026, was designed to cater to a wide array of healthcare professionals interested in the intricate management of cardiac arrhythmias—a condition where the heart maintains an irregular rhythm. Participants comprised
physicians, advanced practice registered nurses, and various allied health professionals dedicated to enhancing their knowledge in this critical area of cardiovascular medicine. A centerpiece of this year's symposium was the use of
live case demonstrations, an advanced educational approach. These cases were streamed live from TCAI's cutting-edge Electrophysiology Center, allowing participants to witness real-time procedures followed by expert commentary.
Dr.
Andrea Natale, a prominent cardiac electrophysiologist and TCAI's executive medical director, underscored the significance of the event. He stated,
“The record number of participants at EPLive 2026 reflects the growing demand for practical, case-based education and collaboration. By sharing knowledge and innovation in this setting, we continue to advance cardiovascular care and improve outcomes for millions living with heart arrhythmias.”
The two-day event showcased several groundbreaking technologies and techniques developed by TCAI's expert physicians. One highlighted advancement was a
streamlined approach that combined both
atrial fibrillation (A Fib) ablation and
left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) in a single procedure for patients at heightened risk of stroke. This innovative tactic minimizes the need for separate interventions and significantly reduces potential complications. Additionally, the symposium introduced
pulsed field ablation, a revolutionary non-thermal method utilizing short-duration, high-energy electrical pulses to target and eliminate heart cells responsible for irregular rhythms without causing excessive heat or cold to the tissue.
EPLive 2026 featured
four educational sessions that included a combination of live broadcast cases from TCAI, alongside recorded cases from some of the world's leading medical centers globally, such as
Colombia's International Arrhythmia Center at Cardioinfantil Foundation,
Italy's Centro Cardiologico Monzino, and various institutions throughout the
United States including the
Cleveland Clinic, Houston Methodist, and others.
In addition to Dr. Natale, numerous other TCAI physicians participated as presenters, sharing their insights and experiences. Notable contributors included Dr.
Amin Al-Ahmad, co-director of the course, along with Drs.
John Allison, Khaled Awad, Mohamed Bassiouny, David Burkhardt, David Burkland, Robert Canby, Joseph Gallinghouse, Rodney Horton, Patrick Hranitzky, and
Jason Zagrodzky.
For healthcare professionals attending the event, the opportunity to earn up to
14.5 American Medical Association (AMA) Physician's Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1 Credit™ further emphasizes the symposium's commitment to professional development and education in the field of cardiology.
