Zentiva's Bold Climate Goals Achieve Validation by SBTi

Zentiva's Sustainability Commitment

Zentiva proudly announces a crucial milestone in its sustainability endeavors with the official validation of its climate targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). This validation marks a significant step forward, reflecting the company's dedication to combating climate change and promoting sustainability in its operations.

The company has outlined both short-term and long-term objectives aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These targets not only align with the SBTi framework but also serve to position Zentiva in support of the European Union’s goal of becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.

Short-term and Long-term Goals

Zentiva’s climate targets include:

  • - Short-term Goals: The company commits to a 63% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 2034, using 2021 as the baseline year. Additionally, a similar reduction of 63% is planned for Scope 3 emissions by 2034, with 2024 as the baseline.

  • - Long-term Goals: The ultimate aim is to achieve a 90% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050 compared to the 2021 baseline, and likewise for Scope 3 emissions by 2050, using 2024 as the baseline year.

These targets reflect a robust alignment with the latest climate science and the objectives set forth in the Paris Agreement, emphasizing deep-cut emissions strategies rather than merely relying on carbon offsets.

Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)

The SBTi is globally recognized for providing a framework that ensures companies' climate targets are scientifically sound and transparent. It emphasizes rigorous accountability and alignment with international climate objectives, requiring companies to prioritize significant emissions reductions before considering offsets.

Centred Around People and Planet

Zentiva's sustainability strategy revolves around three core pillars: people, partners, and the planet. This holistic approach underscores the company’s commitment to integrity in business practices and sustainable value creation. The commitment to supporting health and well-being for future generations illustrates the awareness of their societal and environmental impact. Zentiva aims to operate responsibly while minimizing its ecological footprint and contributing to a healthier future.

Beyond Decarbonization

Zentiva's sustainability initiatives extend far beyond merely achieving carbon neutrality. The company is actively working to lower energy and water consumption and reduce waste production. They also engage in biodiversity restoration projects, implementing practices that meet rigorous corporate governance standards. Ines Windisch, the head of corporate communications and sustainability at Zentiva, stated, “We are proud that our climate targets have been validated by SBTi. Climate change is not a distant threat but our current reality. Ambition alone won’t cool the planet; we need to take action based on our decarbonization strategy.”

Future Prospects

With an ambitious plan for sustainable growth in the coming years, Zentiva is committed to making an impactful difference in its operations and communities. The company recognizes that combating climate change requires collective action and a shared commitment among all stakeholders. Every small step counts, and thus far, Zentiva is proud of the progress it has made.
