China Unicom Launches 'AI Unites All' Initiative
During the 2025 Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, China Unicom introduced its innovative initiative titled 'AI Unites All,' aimed at bridging the digital divide through advanced industrial intelligence, with significant backing from Huawei. The conference featured key figures such as Jian Qin, General Manager of China Unicom, and Yang Chaobin, a board member of Huawei and CEO of the ICT Business Group, who shared their insights on this strategic collaboration.
The theme of the workshop was '5G-A Empowering, AI Transforming, Digital Living,' and it attracted representatives from various sectors, including GSMA, who contributed their perspectives on the evolving tech landscape. Jian Qin emphasized China Unicom's commitment to technological innovation as the cornerstone of its operations: "We are actively embracing the AI revolution and focusing on our 'Unicom Intelligence' and 'Unicom Solutions' to drive global smart transformations."
He elaborated on the company's proactive approach, mentioning a forward-thinking strategy grounded in sustained investments in AI across five core areas: computing infrastructure, network connectivity, data resources, model development, and application scenarios. The aim is to spearhead the integration of AI technologies into industrial applications, ensuring a smoother convergence of networks, services, and AI.
Yang Chaobin from Huawei reaffirmed the collaboration between the two companies and expressed enthusiasm for supporting China Unicom's 'AI Unites All' strategy. He stated, "We will facilitate a wide range of intelligent user applications through cutting-edge AI technologies, enabling China Unicom to develop new AI service portals with a global impact, making intelligence accessible to everyone."
The partnership between Huawei and China Unicom reflects a strong commitment to joint innovation in AI, designed to leverage new business opportunities in an AI-driven era. They successfully established a cloud-based AI service platform catering to both individual and home users, seamlessly integrating cloud technology, computing resources, network capabilities, and devices into a unified AI service portal.
For instance, during the recent Asian Winter Games, China Unicom introduced AI-enhanced cloud-based phones equipped with an AI assistant named Tone. This device employs standard foundational models alongside 5G-A networks to ensure a cohesive user experience across diverse scenarios, providing secure and reliable AI services.
Both companies have been active in harnessing AI to enhance various sectors, including government, healthcare, manufacturing, and creative industries. Their collaborative efforts aim at ensuring a safer, more reliable, flexible, and efficient network experience, essential for modern life.
Notably, China Unicom has pioneered initiatives to boost synergy between AI and network services. They have emerged as a leader in the home broadband sphere, introducing the first-ever HI-CON (Home Intelligent Collaborative Optical Network) communications system. This system integrates optical collaboration with WiFi, supported by intelligent programming algorithms that vastly improve the overall network experience for home users.
At the MWC, China Unicom formally launched the 'AI Unites All' plan, which is intended to fundamentally promote the synergy between networks and AI. With its Convergence and Innovation Strategy as a guiding force, the company is committed to providing intelligent connections across all platforms, aspiring to broaden the accessibility of AI technologies across various sectors.
By easing the integration of services with AI, China Unicom endeavors to enable multiple industries to become smarter, ultimately benefiting countless households. The MWC Barcelona 2025 is being held from March 3 to 6 in Barcelona, Spain, where Huawei showcases its latest products and solutions at stand 1H50 within pavilion 1 at Fira Gran Via. The deployment of 5G-Advanced is set to accelerate in 2025, aiding operators in restructuring their business strategies, infrastructure, and operations using AI. Huawei is actively engaging with operators and partners globally to expedite the transition towards a smarter world.
