CaringBridge Announces CEO Transition
CaringBridge, a well-known nonprofit health platform, has recently made headlines with the announcement of a leadership transition. Tia Newcomer, who has held the position of CEO since 2021, will be stepping down at the end of this year. As part of the organization's strategic planning for continuity and stability, the Board of Directors has appointed Stephanie Schmid, the current Chief Growth Officer, as the new President effective October 1, 2025. She will also take on the role of Interim CEO starting January 1, 2026.
Newcomer has overseen a transformative period for CaringBridge, focusing on modernizing its technology platform, which has been in place for 27 years. Under her leadership, substantial advancements have been made, including significant enhancements in caregiver support, the establishment of strategic partnerships with healthcare providers, and the elevation of CaringBridge's profile as a recognized tech-enabled support platform for caregivers.
In her statement, Newcomer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organization and emphasized her confidence in Schmid’s capabilities. "CaringBridge is strong, our mission has never been more important, and I have every confidence in Stephanie's ability to lead the organization into its next chapter," she stated.
Stephanie Schmid will not only push forward key strategic initiatives as the President but will also assume full operational leadership once she assumes the Interim CEO role. "It will be an honor to serve as Interim CEO of CaringBridge," remarked Schmid. She was optimistic about continuing to build on the organization's strong foundation while ensuring caregivers, patients, and communities receive the support they need during health journeys.
Newcomer will remain with CaringBridge until December 31, 2025, to support the transition process and to ensure that the leadership change occurs smoothly. Sarah Krevans, Chair of the Board, highlighted the importance of CaringBridge's role in supporting patients and caregivers, expressing gratitude for Newcomer's transformative leadership while also voicing confidence in Schmid's abilities during this crucial transition.
