Valmet Partners with Wuzhou Special Paper for Sustainable Transition to Recycled Board Production

Valmet and Wuzhou Special Paper's Innovative Transition to Recycled Board

Valmet, a global leader in technology development, has been selected by Wuzhou Special Paper for an extensive rebuild of their paper machine, aiming to transform production capabilities at their mill in Hubei, China. This strategic collaboration signifies a robust commitment to advancing sustainability within the packaging sector by shifting towards recycled board grades.

Investment Goals and Benefits

The plan is to convert Wuzhou's recently relocated paper machine to produce recycled fluting and liner grades. This investment does not only promise to expand Wuzhou’s production capacity but also extends the lifecycle of the already existing Valmet-manufactured machinery. The completion of this project is anticipated for the beginning of 2027.

Zhang Yanchen, the Deputy General Manager of Wuzhou Special Paper, emphasized the significance of this move, stating, “This investment marks a significant step forward in our strategy to expand capacity and strengthen our position in the packaging market.” By leveraging Valmet's proven technology, Wuzhou aims to enhance machine efficiency while ensuring the quality of their end products meets market standards.

Technological Advancements

The rebuild will feature several technical highlights:
  • - A new layering headbox with a dilution profiler, which will enhance the forming section with advanced shoe and blade technology.
  • - An improved press section to uphold strict quality parameters for containerboard and boost runnability.
  • - A state-of-the-art film sizer that guarantees the necessary strength and quality of the resultant paper products.
  • - Two ultra-wide winders designed for high-quality winding to meet the capacity targets set for the board machine.
  • - An upgraded machine control system for seamless operation across all functions.

This investment will bolster Wuzhou Special Paper's production line, ensuring it can produce high-quality products efficiently while maintaining sustainability standards. Valmet's commitment to this venture aligns with their goal to promote regenerative practices in industries through innovative technologies and services.

A Testament to Lasting Relationships

Pekka Tolvanen, Sales Manager for the Packaging and Paper Business Area at Valmet, highlighted the longstanding relationship between the two companies, stating, “We are proud to support Wuzhou Special Paper in this exceptional rebuild project, which not only extends the lifecycle of existing machinery but also sets a new benchmark in the industry.” The machine destined for Wuzhou is set to be distinguished as the widest containerboard machine in China, boasting a remarkable wire width of 11.3 meters.
