FusionSolar strategy and new products under the theme
"Smart PV ESS Powering a Grid Forming Future". The event gathered around 300 global customers and partners, focusing on the development of robust solutions and products designed for every energy formation scenario, particularly in applications like utility, microgrids, commercial and industrial (CI), and residential sectors. This launch signifies a pivotal moment for the renewable energy industry as it embarks on a new era of grid formation.
Strategic Innovations
Steven Zhou, President of Smart PV ESS at Huawei Digital Power, articulated a clear strategic goal: to integrate technologies, commonly referred to as the “4T” (bits, watts, heat, and batteries), creating a comprehensive energy infrastructure fit for new energy systems. During the unveiling, three key value propositions were highlighted:

Steve Zheng, President of the Smart ESS division, also launched the
Smart String Grid Forming ESS platform, designed to tackle integration challenges for renewable energy and ensure safety throughout the ESS structure. This platform emphasizes:
- - Adaptability to any state of charge (SOC) of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at any grid short-circuit ratio (SCR), facilitating the ongoing evolution of the system to enhance future power networks.
Real-World Applications
One of the most notable implementations includes a 1.3 GWh ESS solution combined with a 400 MW solar project located in the Red Sea region of the Middle East. This project represents the world’s largest photovoltaic + ESS microgrid, which powers a city with 100% renewable energy. Operating stably for over 18 months, this facility has delivered more than 1 billion kWh of green electricity. Moreover, in Ngari Prefecture, China, a 30 MW solar power plant and a 6 MW/24 MWh ESS have been utilizing the Smart PV+ESS solution provided by Huawei in exceptionally challenging conditions at an altitude of 4,600 meters, with extremely-low temperatures and a weak grid. The photovoltaic capacity can be increased from 1.5 MW to 12 MW, enhancing the photovoltaic integration by 75%. According to facility statistics, the ESS has supported the grid more than 30 times in just 10 days.
The Smart String Grid Forming ESS solution captures more value from energy storage using innovative power electronics technology, while maintaining network safety and stability through digital intelligence.
Ensuring Security and Reliability
Furthermore, Huawei Digital Power has transformed ESS security with six cell-to-grid safety design strategies, elevating protection from traditional container-level to advanced battery pack-level security. Coupled with intelligent, full-link battery management systems (BMS), this significantly boosts the proactive safety measures of the complete system, ensuring a solid foundation for the energy storage sector.
SUN POWER, President of the Residential PV ESS sector at Huawei, unveiled the new
Home Energy Management Solution 6.0, incorporating green energy generation and intelligent consumption, paving the way for modern energy management in homes. Among the featured innovations was the residential ESS LUNA S1-7kWh that guarantees 15 years of industry-leading warranty, offers around 40% more usable energy compared to the average market products, and allows capacity expansion on demand up to 252 kWh.
This solution is designed for a vast range of residential and small CI scenarios and boasts solid technical features, making it the preferred choice for 3.9 million households and 30,000 installers worldwide. From carbon-neutral homes in Italy to solar-powered cities in Sweden, this offering is optimal for achieving domestic energy independence and facilitating community energy sharing.
