Enhancing Disaster Preparedness: The Kita Ward Future Disaster Prevention Project
On August 8, 2026, the Tokyo Junior Chamber Kita Ward Committee will launch the "Kita Ward Future Disaster Prevention Project". This initiative aims to amplify community awareness regarding disaster preparedness, focusing on the important perspective of children. The project encourages young voices to actively contribute to disaster readiness conversations in their households and communities.
Introduction to the Project
This remarkable initiative will kick off with the introduction of a new radio program titled "Kita Kids Disaster Prevention ON AIR" on Shibusawa-kun FM. In this program, children will learn about disaster preparedness and share their thoughts and insights in their own words. The goal is to foster discussions at home about evacuation sites, emergency supplies, and communication methods in case of a disaster.
Event Details: Parent-Child Workshop
The second phase of this project features a unique hands-on workshop called “Parent-Child Disaster Action: The Right Way to Self-Help.” Set to take place at the Tokyo Kita Ward Disaster Prevention Center – also known as the Earthquake Science Museum – this event will provide children and parents an opportunity to engage in various informative activities. Participants can expect to benefit from:
- - Specialized seminars led by disaster prevention officers.
- - Practical workshops on creating disaster bottles.
- - A hands-on earthquake experience that simulates real-life scenarios.
This parent-child workshop is designed to empower families, enabling them to take responsibility for their own disaster readiness instead of solely relying on government or community support.
