Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas Launches Indonesian Language Property Tax Guide for the Community
Launch of the Indonesian Language Property Tax Guide
On June 11, 2026, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas will officially launch her office's newest multilingual property tax guide, designed specifically for the Indonesian-speaking community. This guided initiative will be unveiled at a special ceremony held at 2 p.m. in room 112 of the Cook County Treasurer's Office located at 118 N. Clark St. in Chicago.
The newly translated guide is part of a broader effort to ensure that crucial property tax information is accessible to all residents of Cook County, acknowledging the diverse linguistic backgrounds within the community. "This booklet reflects our commitment to ensuring that every resident has access to the information they need to navigate the property tax system," Pappas stated, emphasizing the importance of making tax documents comprehensible for everyone, including those unfamiliar with the system.
To highlight the significance of this initiative, the event will be attended by the Indonesian Consul General to Chicago, Trisari Dyah Paramita, along with her consular staff. Their presence underscores the importance of fostering connections within the multicultural fabric of Cook County.
Currently, the Treasurer's office provides information in 29 languages, and the addition of Indonesian marks another step towards inclusivity. The aim is to demystify the complexities of property tax bills, exemptions, refunds, and various payment options for speakers of different languages. For many residents, navigating the complexity of property taxes can feel overwhelming, especially for those who are new to the country. Pappas noted, "The tax system can be difficult to understand for lifelong Chicagoans and is even more intimidating for newcomers to Cook County. That's why I’m proud to support Cook County's Indonesian immigrant community with this brochure."
During the ceremony, Treasurer Pappas will honor several distinguished members of the Indonesian American community by presenting them with Certificates of Excellence. These awards recognize individuals for their remarkable contributions in areas such as civic engagement, business, education, and community service. Honorees include individuals like Bobby Liem and Citra Yuda Nur Fatihah, whose efforts have significantly impacted the local community.
In addition to the physical brochures available at the Treasurer's office and online, residents can also access property tax information on the Cook County Treasurer's website (www.cookcountytreasurer.com), which can be translated into over one hundred other languages. This expansive resource aims to empower residents by providing them with the tools they need to understand their property taxes better and participate actively in their communities.
The unveiling of the Indonesian Language Property Tax Guide serves not only as a valuable resource for Indonesian residents but also as a commitment by Cook County to enhance accessibility and inclusivity across all levels of government. With such initiatives, Treasurer Pappas hopes to foster a more informed and engaged community, benefiting both residents and local governance. In summary, the upcoming event embodies a leap towards a more inclusive approach to public service, honoring the contributions of the Indonesian community in Cook County.
