Kikkoman's Environmental Leadership Recognized by CDP
Kikkoman Group has achieved a remarkable recognition from the international NGO CDP, receiving the highest rating, the 'A List', in two critical areas: climate change and water security. This marks Kikkoman's first inclusion in the A List for climate change and the sixth time, consecutively for three years, in the water security category.
Kikkoman's commitment to environmental sustainability is encapsulated in the corporate slogan 'Creating Delicious Memories'. The company firmly believes in maintaining harmony with nature through its business operations. The guiding principle for their environmental initiatives is 'Delicious memories come from rich nature', which is reflected in their company-wide environmental preservation system.
In line with their 2030 Environmental Vision, titled 'Kikkoman Group Long-term Environmental Vision', they have set ambitious targets in alignment with the long-term objectives outlined in the Paris Agreement. The goal is to achieve net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050, with a significant step toward this target being a commitment to reduce CO₂ emissions by over 50% from 2018 levels by 2030. This initiative has received official recognition from the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative.
Recognizing that water is a key raw material for their primary products, Kikkoman places significant emphasis on water environmental considerations. The company meticulously manages water usage and discharge volumes at its manufacturing facilities. Additionally, Kikkoman has set specific targets for reducing water usage per unit and aims to treat wastewater generated from production activities before discharge. The company has implemented stricter self-imposed standards for wastewater management, exceeding legal requirements to minimize the environmental impact.
Kikkoman aspires to integrate its environmental initiatives into its business activities, contributing to the resolution of social issues and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They also engage in environmental information disclosure and participate in local environmental protection activities, fostering collaboration with stakeholders.
CDP, headquartered in London, is a non-profit organization that encourages corporations and municipalities to disclose their environmental policies and actively promotes measures to tackle environmental issues.
Kikkoman encourages its stakeholders to join them in their journey towards sustainability and environmental responsibility, striving to leave a positive impact on both society and the planet.
