World Phygital Community Announces 2025/2026 Global Qualifying Tournament Season

The World Phygital Community (WPC) has officially announced the highly anticipated 2025/2026 season of qualifying tournaments designed for athletes and clubs aiming to compete in the prestigious Games of the Future, scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan next year. This groundbreaking season is projected to be the largest in history, running from August 1 to December 15, 2025. All tournaments will be organized by WPC members across the globe, providing clubs and athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills in the fast-evolving realm of phygital sports.

The season will feature a two-stage format, starting with regional tournaments, branded as Phygital Origins, held in each participating country. This will be followed by national competitions, referred to as Phygital Rivals. Dan Merkley, the president of WPC, expressed his enthusiasm by stating, "This new season will be the biggest ever. With 96 members of the World Phygital Community in 92 countries, this is the perfect chance for anyone wanting to be part of this rapidly growing phenomenon to step up and prove their worth. Phygital sports are for everyone, and we can’t wait to see what phygital superstars emerge this season."

During the qualifiers, athletes will compete across several disciplines, primarily Phygital Football, Phygital Basketball, Phygital Shooter, and Phygital Dancing. The first three disciplines consist of two stages: a digital round featuring athletes competing in a video game version of their sport, followed by a physical round where they take on the real-life counterpart. Notably, the Phygital Dancing tournaments will employ well-known dance video games to deliver the phygital experience in a single stage.

After the conclusion of these competitions in December, rankings will be calculated. The top two clubs and athletes in each discipline will secure an automatic spot in the Games of the Future 2026. Meanwhile, those finishing in the 3rd to 26th positions will have the chance to advance through the Phygital Contenders tournament.

Before the season kicks off, WPC members can register to host the Phygital Origins and Phygital Rivals tournaments from May 1 to July 31, 2025.
