Hilton Kyoto Awarded iF DESIGN AWARD 2026
In an exciting announcement, Tokyo Tatemono has revealed that their latest development, the Hilton Kyoto, has been honored with the internationally acclaimed iF DESIGN AWARD 2026. Established in 1953 by the International Forum Design GmbH in Germany, the iF DESIGN AWARD is one of the most prestigious design accolades globally, celebrating outstanding design and innovation across various fields.
The Hilton Kyoto marks the inaugural entry of Hilton's flagship brand, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, into the historic city of Kyoto. Scheduled to open its doors to guests on September 12, 2024, this luxurious hotel will feature a total of 313 rooms across five categories and 16 types. Alongside the accommodations, guests can enjoy four distinctive dining establishments, an executive lounge, a spa, a fitness center, an indoor pool, and versatile banquet and meeting spaces, all while soaking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding city.
The creative concept of Hilton Kyoto, known as 'Kyoto SYNAPSE,' aims to connect the rich tapestry of Kyoto’s history and modernity, tradition and innovation. This concept emphasizes the hotel’s goal to provide visitors with fresh discoveries and encounters that reflect Kyoto's unique allure. The design theme, 'ORIMONO' (textiles), is woven thoughtfully throughout the hotel, ensuring a cohesive and immersive guest experience.
As you enter the lobby, you will find a stunning reinterpretation of Kyoto’s traditional crafts, featuring intricate braided cords reminiscent of 'Dategawa' stone lanterns, and a modern interpretation of Kyo weaving machines used in Nishijin textiles. This symbolism is apparent in the lobby’s design, complemented by light spaces created by traditional sliding shoji doors, and tapestry elements made from Nishijin textile, embodying the elegance of Kyoto’s artistic heritage.
The rooftop garden and terrace on the top floor provide spectacular views of the Higashiyama mountains, allowing guests to engage fully with the ever-changing beauty of the Kyoto landscape through the seasons. The exterior of the building incorporates shadows and textures, creating a design that echoes the natural environment and enhances the overall experience of the hotel.
