Modernizing Systems and Building Talent Crucial for AI Success in U.S. Organizations
The landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving, with organizations across the United States accelerating their adoption of AI technologies. CGI, one of the foremost independent IT and business consulting firms, has unveiled the findings from its annual Voice of Our Clients research, which emphasizes key trends that significantly influence business and technology strategies in today's environment.
Key Trends Shaping AI and Digital Transformation
According to the insights gathered from discussions with business and technology executives, several trends are markedly shaping the strategies of U.S. organizations:
1. Need for Agile and Resilient Organizations: As technology adoption accelerates, the need for adaptive and resilient organizational structures has become imperative. A striking 70% of executives identified technology and digital acceleration as vital macro trends influencing their operations. Simultaneously, geopolitical and economic uncertainties are prompting 40% of leaders to prioritize resilience through data sovereignty and localization initiatives; however, only 23% feel their operating models demonstrate high levels of agility.
2. Accelerated AI Adoption: Over the past two years, organizations have seen a significant growth in generative AI deployments, soaring by 37 percentage points. Currently, 58% of U.S. businesses have integrated AI into their core processes. Despite this surge, readiness gaps persist, with only 36% having an enterprise-wide AI strategy, and a mere 18% extending that strategy to include their larger ecosystem.
3. Talent and Capacity Challenges: The capability to expand talent acquisition and execution capacity remains a significant obstacle for many companies. Executives identified cost pressures as the foremost constraint to growth, with legacy systems posing challenges to digital transformation and AI initiatives. As a result, organizations are increasingly turning to managed services and strategic partnerships to address these challenges.
4. Government Focus on AI Execution: Federal leaders are shifting their approach from AI experimentation to tangible implementation. Enhancing legacy systems and fortifying data foundations are becoming focal points to ensure secure, mission-focused AI adoption.
Insights on Measuring AI Success
From this year’s research, it was found that 64% of organizations are now actively measuring outcomes from their AI implementations, compared to just 51% globally. Additionally, while 51% maintain a comprehensive data strategy for their enterprise, only 33% expand this strategy across their partner ecosystems.
A strong emphasis on security, cyber risk mitigation, and cost management characterized cloud adoption drivers in the current landscape. Furthermore, the trend of relying on managed services is gaining momentum, especially through tailored support models in both IT and business operations. Looking ahead, application modernization and cloud migration have been highlighted as the leading priorities for the next two years.
As Vijay Srinivasan, President of U.S. Commercial and State Government operations at CGI, remarked: "Organizations are moving swiftly from AI exploration to achievable outcomes. The next transformation phase will hinge on reinforcing the data, technology, and operational foundations necessary to scale AI effectively and deliver enduring business value."
