As we welcome the new year, Securus Technologies has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting children affected by the incarceration of their parents across Florida. Collaborating with the Florida Cares Charity Corporation, the organization has made significant strides to bring moments of joy and connection to families facing the unique challenges that arise from incarceration. Through its initiative, Securus aims not only to address immediate concerns of isolation but also to foster long-term emotional stability and resilience among children in these difficult circumstances.

In 2025, Securus contributed a hefty $20,000 to Florida Cares, which facilitated two key programs aimed at benefiting the children of incarcerated parents. The Holiday Gift Project was particularly impactful, bringing personalized gifts and heartfelt handwritten letters to close to 600 children, ensuring they felt cherished even during the holiday season. Additionally, the Back-to-School Drive provided around 500 children with essential supplies, helping to ease their transition back to schooling with the confidence they need.

Shamia Lodge, Director of Stakeholder Engagement at Securus Technologies, emphasized that preserving family connections is critical in supporting both successful reintegration for parents and improved outcomes for their children. “Every gift, every letter, and every volunteer hour reflects our commitment to the people and communities we serve,” she stated. This sentiment underscores the essential role of empathy and understanding in creating strong family ties amid adversity.

Research highlights that children's emotional and psychological well-being is positively influenced when they maintain a connection with their incarcerated parents. Each effort made by Securus, in tandem with Florida Cares, helps foster a sense of belonging and support that is crucial for the children’s development. Denise Rock, Executive Director of Florida Cares, echoed similar sentiments, noting how crucial such partnerships are in enhancing the lives of those who are incarcerated and their families. “By working together, we're not only creating moments of connection but also supporting long-term resilience and stability for children and families navigating incarceration,” she stated, highlighting the collective vision of both organizations.

Beyond its financial contributions, the Securus team actively participated in hands-on ways, with employees volunteering around 60 hours for gift-wrapping sessions at their Miramar Hub. Associates worked diligently to prepare gifts and assemble handwritten letters, showcasing the commitment to empathy and connection that Securus advocates.
