Hitachi Launches Physical AI Experience Studio
Hitachi Ltd. has announced the opening of its Physical AI Experience Studio on April 1, 2026. Situated within the Lumada Innovation Hub Tokyo, this studio aims to accelerate the societal implementation of Physical AI through collaborative efforts with customers and partners. It will serve as a strategic base leveraging the innovative solutions of "HMAX by Hitachi," focused on improving productivity, quality, and safety across various sectors.
Understanding Hitachi's Approach to Physical AI
Physical AI is rapidly growing in importance as it connects analytical insights derived from real-world data to tangible actions, such as robot control and automated equipment operation. This repeating cycle of learning enables AI to make continuous improvements, ultimately achieving optimal decision-making and execution in varying conditions. Hitachi's transformation efforts, branded as Lumada 3.0, utilize accumulated digital capabilities and domain knowledge to enhance social infrastructure. Within this framework, Physical AI and HMAX play pivotal roles, bridging IT and operational technology (OT) to synchronize advanced analytical decision-making with accurate on-site actions.
The new studio will act as a collaborative space where value creation fueled by Physical AI can address customer challenges. Visitors will experience cutting-edge technologies developed by Hitachi’s research and development team, including robotics AI that supports field workers and wearable sensor technologies merging Hitachi’s human measurement capabilities with GlobalLogic’s software development expertise. Professionals such as Hitachi’s AI ambassadors will guide customers in refining their visions and challenges, developing concrete solutions with the use of HMAX.
This studio will also facilitate an open collaborative ecosystem, partnering with alliances including tech giants like Google Cloud and Microsoft. By combining these advanced technologies with Hitachi's deep domain knowledge, the studio aims to provide optimal solutions for customers’ complex issues.
Addressing Industry Challenges
In recent years, sectors such as social infrastructure, manufacturing, and logistics have faced significant challenges, including declining labor forces, a shortage of skilled workers, and aging infrastructure. To tackle these issues, there is increasing enthusiasm for robots and Physical AI that autonomously make decisions and operate. However, many companies encounter barriers, unsure of where to start. To break this cycle, Hitachi is establishing the Physical AI Experience Studio to connect customers’ visions and challenges with the possibilities of Physical AI, creating new business transformation opportunities.
Hitachi's strengths lie not only in AI technology but also in its extensive experience across diverse sectors like railways, energy, and manufacturing, making it a first-hand user of its innovations. For Hitachi, its own operations are considered the
