Abu Dhabi Art Fair 2025: Embracing Global Creativity
The Abu Dhabi Art Fair is making a triumphant return in 2025, set to take place from
November 19 to 23. Organized by the
Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), this event promises to be an extraordinary celebration of art and culture, featuring
140 galleries representing more than
35 countries across the globe.
Expanding Artistic Horizons
In its
17th edition, the fair not only showcases established galleries but also welcomes a substantial number of newcomers, highlighting the evolving landscape of artistic expression. Participants from countries such as
Algeria, the Netherlands, Peru, and Tanzania are making their debut, representing a rich tapestry of artistic traditions and innovations.
The fair's growth reflects Abu Dhabi's increasing reputation as a center for art and culture, with a
40% increase in exhibitors compared to the previous year. This surge highlights the fair's importance as a pivotal platform for both institutional and private collectors.
Features of the 2025 Fair
This year's fair will focus on distinct sectors designed to amplify diverse artistic narratives. A particular highlight is the dedicated section showcasing
Nigerian art, in collaboration with the
Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy. This segment will feature seven leading Nigerian galleries, showcasing the vibrant and dynamic contemporary art scene in Nigeria, known for its bold works that explore themes of identity, politics, and history.
The
Nigeria Everywhere initiative aims to elevate the global visibility of Nigerian creativity, especially in emerging regions, emphasizing the diversity and excellence of its cultural output. Participating galleries will present emerging and established artists whose work engages with local realities while connecting to larger global conversations. Expect a rich variety of mixed media, figurative paintings, and conceptual installations that resonate with the urgency and innovation defining contemporary Nigerian art.
In addition to Nigerian artists, the fair will also include a new section focusing on
Modern Turkish Art, curated by
Doris Benhalegua Karako. This section will present previously unseen works by modern masters, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of Turkey.
Prominent galleries participating include
DG Art Gallery, known for its presentation of
Fahrelnissa Zeid, and
Art On Istanbul Gallery, which features
Burhan Doğançay. The fair also highlights the Gulf region, presenting major artists from Khaleeji countries with notable presentations from galleries like
Hunna Art and
Gallery Isabelle.
The Collector's Salon and Aldar Hall
The fair's
Collector's Salon, curated by
Roxane Zand (former vice president at Sotheby's Middle East), returns with a robust program, including exhibitors like
Kent Antiques and
Daniel Crouch Rare Books. This section is designed to cater to discerning collectors seeking unique and valuable pieces.
Moreover,
Aldar Properties is set to enhance the experience with the unveiling of
Aldar Hall at Manarat Al Saadiyat. This newly remodeled space will host galleries participating in the
Gulf Focus section and features exciting new participants from West Africa, such as
Loft Art Gallery and
Comptoir de Mines Galerie from Morocco.
Beyond the Fair
Abu Dhabi Art transcends the typical art fair framework, emphasizing public engagement through a year-round program of installations, exhibitions, talks, and events. The culmination of this rich cultural offering is the main event in November, serving not only as a pivotal sales platform for galleries but also as an opportunity for artists to showcase ambitious and site-specific works to a diverse audience.
