Manulife Investment Management Secures $1.1B for Third Co-Investment Fund, Surpassing Expectations

Manulife Investment Management Achieves Major Fundraising Milestone

In a significant advancement for private equity investments, Manulife Investment Management (Manulife IM) has successfully closed its third co-investment fund, dubbed Manulife Co-Investment Partners III, L.P., with total commitments reaching $1.1 billion. This accomplishment not only surpassed the fund's initial target of $750 million but also exceeded the previous co-investment fund established in 2021, which amassed about $800 million. The impressive $300 million increase reflects the firm's robust fundraising capabilities, sustained partnerships, and a strategic investment framework that appeals to institutional investors.

This substantial capital influx can be attributed to the concerted efforts of Manulife IM's skilled investment team and its network of over 200 sponsor partners globally. The co-investment strategy is designed to provide institutional investors with direct access to top-quality private equity prospects, focusing primarily on middle market companies. These opportunities are carefully sourced through the company's established relationships with general partners and assessed through a thoroughly selective methodology.

The new fund has successfully attracted a diverse array of investors from around the globe. Participants include public and corporate pension plans, insurance firms, asset management companies, financial institutions, and family offices. Notably, Manulife's General Account also committed capital to this fund, aligning its interests with those of the broader investor community.

Vipon Ghai, Global Head of Private Equity and Credit at Manulife IM, expressed gratitude to the firm's investors, stating, "We’re thrilled with the successful fundraise of our third co-investment vehicle, with a significant increase in commitments from our predecessor fund. The trust and partnership from both our new and returning investors have been pivotal in achieving this remarkable milestone."

In line with Ghai's sentiments, Scott Garfield, Senior Managing Director and Head of North American Private Equity at Manulife IM, emphasized, "This fundraise underscores our consistent strategy and the exceptional experience of our team. We are excited to continue providing our investors with access to diversified private equity opportunities."

Manulife IM's private equity and credit platform now manages a vast $28 billion in assets across various categories including primary funds, co-investments, secondaries, and both senior and junior credit. This is part of a more extensive private markets platform that integrates investments in infrastructure, real estate, timberland, and agriculture. The firm’s assets under management are calculated on a fair value basis in U.S. dollars as of March 31, 2025, and include $9.1 billion of unfunded commitments.
