Thrivent and Habitat for Humanity Mark Two Decades of Homebuilding Partnership
Celebrating 20 Years of a Life-Changing Partnership
Thrivent, a prominent financial services organization, and Habitat for Humanity International are commemorating two decades of collaboration aimed at transforming lives through homeownership. Established in 2005, this partnership has helped families worldwide access safe and affordable housing, with Thrivent and its clients contributing over $283 million to this noble cause.
A Mission Rooted in Service
As a Fortune 500 company, Thrivent places generosity at the core of its mission, aimed at empowering individuals and communities. According to Carolyn Sakstrup, the Executive Vice President and Chief Growth Generosity Officer at Thrivent, the organization's involvement with Habitat for Humanity is a remarkable representation of their values. “Our purpose at Thrivent is to empower lives of service and faith, and our partnership with Habitat for Humanity is one of the meaningful ways we do that,” Sakstrup stated.
Having personally participated in a weeklong build, she expressed her admiration for the project. “It showed me firsthand the lasting impact this program has on the volunteers and community members, and most of all the families who build their new homes right alongside us.”
Enabling community-building through collaboration has always been a fundamental aspect of this partnership. Over 842,000 Thrivent clients and volunteers have given their time and efforts to creating homes, benefitting both local and global communities.
Projects and Volunteer Efforts
Through its initiatives, Thrivent has empowered its clients to join Habitat for Humanity in various capacities, including volunteering on-site for home builds and participating in essential community projects. Their contributions ensure that homes not only meet livability standards but also reflect safety and sustainability, thereby enhancing the quality of life for many families.
Over the last twenty years, engagement from Thrivent’s clients and volunteers has translated into more than 6.4 million hours of service, reaching over 25,000 individuals. This hands-on approach is crucial for Habitat's overarching vision of ensuring that everyone has a safe, decent place to call home.
In response to the continued efforts, Charlita Stephens-Walker, the Vice President of Corporate Partnerships and Cause Marketing at Habitat for Humanity International, expressed her appreciation for Thrivent's enduring support. “Thrivent is one of our longest-standing and most impactful corporate partners, and their support over the past 20 years has created thriving communities and enabled thousands of families to access affordable homeownership worldwide,” she remarked.
A Shared Vision for the Future
As the two organizations celebrate this landmark anniversary, the commitment to building homes, communities, and hope does not diminish. Thrivent plans to continue working closely with Habitat for Humanity to advocate for affordable housing policies and strengthen community ties. Their partnership reminds us that collaborative efforts can create lasting change in the lives of families, promoting hope and stability in communities across the globe.
