Silvernail Foundation Awards Scholarships To Bright Scholars in Hancock County

Silvernail Foundation Scholars of 2026: A New Hope for Education

The Silvernail Foundation has unveiled its latest cohort of ten remarkable students from eight different schools across Hancock County as they embark on their post-secondary journeys. This marks the fourth year of the Foundation's mission to provide invaluable support to these individuals, demonstrating that bright futures are achievable through dedication and community engagement.

Founded by Andy and Shelby Silvernail in 2022 alongside their three children, the Foundation was established with an initial commitment of $2 million. Each year, the organization selects up to ten scholars to receive scholarships of as much as $20,000, aimed at facilitating further education and leadership development opportunities.

In addition to financial assistance, the scholars participate in an annual leadership symposium where they engage with themes surrounding trust, values-based leadership, and community-building grounded in respect and prosperity.

This year’s selected scholars include:

  • - Samuel Robbins – Deer Isle-Stonington High School
  • - Wesley Trundy – Deer Isle-Stonington High School

“It is inspiring to see such impressive talent in our communities,” stated Andy Silvernail, who serves as the Foundation’s co-founder and chairman/CEO of International Paper. “These students are already leading their communities and I consider it an honor to contribute to their continued success.”

The newly inducted scholars hail from Hancock and Washington County, demonstrating that even small-town roots can lead to significant opportunities. From Deer Isle to Steuben, these students are prepared to take their experiences into prominent educational environments, including labs and lecture halls across the country.

"Every scholar exemplifies that Maine roots can thrive anywhere; they simply need the opportunity," remarked Andy Silvernail. “The Foundation is a testament to the belief that talent does not require a specific zip code, but it does require support to flourish.”

Shelby Silvernail, also a co-founder and director of Paws for Patrick, echoed this sentiment, adding, “When young people are offered opportunities, mentorship, and support, they can achieve anything. Helping them is the ultimate gift.”

Annual Summer Symposium: A Gathering of Excellence

In July, the Silvernail Scholars from 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 will gather for the annual symposium in Blue Hill. This event will be filled with activities focused on personal development, connection, and fun, creating a tight-knit community among the scholars. They will also interact with advisory council members to gain further insights into their leadership journeys.

“We anticipate this gathering every year,” said Andy and Shelby. “What excites us the most is witnessing the community these young leaders are fostering. They represent the future, and we are honored to walk alongside them as they navigate their paths.”
