NEHA Hosts Global Roundtable for World Food Safety Day 2025

NEHA Celebrates World Food Safety Day with Expert Roundtable

In observance of the upcoming World Food Safety Day on June 7, 2025, the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) is set to host a significant virtual roundtable on June 3, 2025. The event, titled "Science on the Frontline: Global Voices of Food Safety Professionals," aims to gather insights from food safety experts across the globe, showcasing innovative practices and strategies in ensuring food safety.

The theme of this year's roundtable, "Food Safety Science in Action," shines a spotlight on the critical work done by food safety regulators from not just the United States but also participants from Australia, New Zealand, and Dubai. As the world faces increasing challenges in food safety, this discussion serves as a pivotal platform for professionals to share their experiences and collaborate on effective solutions.

Dr. David T. Dyjack, the executive director of NEHA, has emphasized the overwhelming importance of food safety, stating, "Food safety touches every community and every person." He believes this roundtable will enhance the dialogue around proven solutions while encouraging a proactive approach to emerging risks in food safety.

In recent years, food safety professionals have had to adapt to new challenges, including emerging pathogens and changing consumer behaviors. The focus on scientific approaches and innovative tools is vital as these professionals work diligently at the intersection of science and public health. The NEHA roundtable will feature presentations from various panelists, followed by a moderated question and answer session with the audience. This interactive setting aims to foster a collaborative environment where knowledge and experiences can be exchanged freely.

Rance Baker, the roundtable's moderator and NEHA’s entrepreneurial zone director, highlights the creativity and commitment these professionals exhibit in safeguarding public health. He noted, "This event highlights the essential, often unseen, work these individuals do to keep our food supply safe."

World Food Safety Day, established by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, is celebrated every year to raise awareness about the importance of food safety and to emphasize the global call to action for ensuring food security. The initiative seeks to engage all stakeholders in the food supply chain, reinforcing the understanding that safe food is crucial not only for health but also for economic stability and social development.

In preparation for the virtual event, stakeholders and interested individuals are encouraged to learn more and register to participate. This roundtable represents an opportunity for various food safety practitioners to connect, strategize, and mobilize efforts toward eliminating foodborne risks and enhancing public health safety.
