Porter Capital Secures $10 Million Facility for a Family-Run Seafood Business

In a strategic move to bolster the operational stability of a long-standing seafood processing company, Porter Capital Corporation has successfully finalized a significant financing arrangement. The company, with a rich history of over 20 years in the seafood industry, has undergone a financial transition that aims not only to sustain its current operations but also to support its ambitions for expansion in a competitive market.

The finalized agreement provides a remarkable $10 million non-notification factoring facility. This innovative financing method advances a substantial 90 percent against eligible receivables and 85 percent of the net orderly liquidation value of the company’s inventory. At the inception of the deal, Porter Capital issued an initial funding of $6.5 million, replacing a previous bank loan that the seafood processor had relied upon.

The backdrop of this significant financing effort stems from a period of financial strain for the company, characterized by operational losses and a potential sale consideration that led its long-standing bank to withdraw support. During this critical phase, a major opportunity emerged: a national retail chain was keen to bring the seafood business on as a vendor. However, the processor faced challenges in providing the necessary working capital to purchase the required inventory at the needed volume.

Porter Capital tackled this situation adeptly, focusing on the value of the company’s receivables and inventory instead of its recent financial difficulties. Collaborating closely with existing lenders, Porter capitalized on an intercreditor agreement to seamlessly implement the new financing facility, ensuring that operations were not disrupted. One key advantage of this non-notification facility is that the seafood processor’s customers, including the new retail account, are shielded from the complexities of the financing arrangement, allowing them to continue regular payment practices.

With the capital influx, the seafood processor was able to stabilize relationships with suppliers and vendors, redirecting focus towards the growth and management of the business. Not only did they successfully onboard the national retail chain as a client, but they also expanded their product lines and increased their use of the financial facility, progressing from the initial advance of $6.5 million to $8 million currently outstanding. By June 2026, the company achieved a notable milestone of returning to profitability, reversing the adverse trends that had previously strained its banking relationships.

In evaluating potential financing companies, the seafood processor engaged in a thorough review process, considering five different firms before ultimately choosing Porter. What set Porter apart was their proactive approach: the team dedicated time to visit the processor's headquarters, understanding the intricacies of the business firsthand, rather than assessing it from a distance. This level of engagement reflects Porter's commitment to fostering strong relationships across its portfolio.

Porter Capital specializes in invoice factoring and receivables financing. They offer quick decision-making processes and next-day funding following onboarding, along with direct lines to decision-makers who appreciate the importance of timing and trust in fostering business growth. Overall, this partnership has significantly strengthened the seafood processor's operational and financial foundation, equipping it to navigate future opportunities confidently.
