Introducing the Japan Eco Architecture Award
The housing magazine
Architectural Knowledge Builders by Exknowledge Co. has launched a new contest, the
Japan Eco Architecture Award, aimed at recognizing architectural examples that successfully balance carbon neutrality with solutions to local and social issues.
This award focuses on buildings with a total floor area of up to 1,000 square meters, excluding residential properties. It seeks submissions from various types of small-scale architecture, including retail, offices, accommodation facilities, educational and welfare institutions, community hubs, and mixed-use developments. Despite their smaller scale, these buildings must demonstrate both environmental performance and social impact.
The Japan Eco Architecture Award is an independent contest that has evolved from the previous
Japan Eco House Award, specifically from the “Small-Scale Facilities Division.”
In recent years, the architectural field has faced growing demands for energy efficiency, the utilization of renewable energy, as well as the effective use of local resources, community revitalization, and the well-being of users. Furthermore, sustainability as a business model has become essential. Small-scale architecture is particularly impactful, as it closely interconnects with local lifestyles, industries, and urban development, allowing architectural innovation to directly influence communities and society.
This award evaluates not just the environmental performance but also the value that architecture provides to local communities. The judging criteria emphasize environmental performance, well-being, local circulation, planning viability, and the quality of design and space, all aimed at discovering and promoting outstanding examples that reflect the necessary architectural directions for the future.
Architectural Knowledge Builders aims to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society and widen the possibilities of locally-rooted architecture through this award.
