Locus FS Expands Production in Midland

Locus Fermentation Solutions (Locus FS) has made a significant move to enhance its production capabilities by acquiring a new facility in Midland, Texas. This strategic acquisition is poised to triple the blending capacity of Locus FS's existing operations in the region, reflecting the company’s commitment to scaling its infrastructure in response to the growing demand for high-performance biosurfactant-based solutions in the oil and gas industry.

The new facility will enable Locus FS to not only increase production but also improve logistical efficiency and storage capabilities. Specifically, it will double the current under-roof storage capacity and will introduce additional inventory space for finished products. This expansion is crucial as it positions the company to better meet customer needs and manage fluctuations in demand more effectively.

Located in the heart of the Permian Basin, the Midland site is vital for Locus FS's customers operating in one of the nation’s busiest oil-producing regions. Locus Bio-Energy, a key division within the company, develops eco-friendly oilfield chemistries that enhance fluid behaviors and improve hydrocarbon recovery.

Field trials in the Delaware Basin have already showcased the impressive potential of Locus FS’s SUSTAIN® biosurfactant technology, with results indicating nearly 20% higher cumulative oil output over a 12-month controlled trial, along with a more than 15% increase in estimated ultimate recovery.

Marty Shumway, Senior Vice President of Locus Bio-Energy, mentioned that the expansion brings more than just additional capacity; it translates to improved operational flexibility, allowing for better product blending and inventory management. The facility is designed to enhance material movement and overall plant operations as well, featuring improved logistics for loading and unloading processes, on-site truck weighing, and better traffic management—crucial for ensuring operational safety.

In the long term, Locus FS foresees the introduction of increased automation in both blending and production processes within this new facility. This will not only drive up throughput but also ensure repeatable and efficient operations.
