Ekiuto Omiya Hosts SDGs Fair with a Focus on Sustainability
At Ekiuto Omiya, located at JR Omiya Station, the highly anticipated SDGs Fair titled "Tsunagu Mirai - A Step Beyond Tomorrow from Ekiuto" is set to run from May 25 to June 14. This year marks the third iteration of the event, which has evolved from merely learning about initiatives to engaging in hands-on experiences, aligning with the theme of World Environment Day on June 5.
Celebrating Local and Sustainable Choices
The centerpiece of the fair is a workshop that allows participants to create beautiful swags using dried flowers, showcasing the beauty of floral arrangements while emphasizing the importance of sustainability and reducing food waste. Additionally, the event features 22 exclusive items at Ekiuto Omiya, including three special limited editions that highlight local flavors and upcycling efforts.
One of the standout products is the "Amarin's Berry Berry Butter Sand," created using by-products from butter making and featuring premium strawberries from Saitama Prefecture. Another exciting offering is a baked good made from "tree-ripened peaches," which are typically too soft for transport, transformed into a delightful treat that reduces waste. This initiative not only satisfies the palate but also contributes to waste reduction.
The fair also presents dishes made with local ingredients like Fukaya leeks and Saitama-produced komatsuna. It’s an invitation to customers to consider how their culinary choices can lead to enjoyable experiences while also supporting local agriculture.
Engaging Experiences: Workshops and Events
On June 6, a hands-on workshop for making swags will be held, encouraging families to participate in sustainably crafting beautiful decorations from seasonal flowers. The project allows participants to learn about the significance of the SDGs in everyday life while creating a piece that will evolve into a dry flower arrangement over time.
The fair doesn't stop there; Ekiuto Ueno and Nippori will also host the "Fukushima Sake and Fermentation Lover" pop-up shop beginning June 15, celebrating the rich sake culture of Fukushima and the various fermentation products that complement it. This event will include a talk show by renowned sake journalist Tomomi Seki, providing attendees insights into the world of Japanese sake.
In addition to the fair, street vendors will showcase local, handcrafted goods, turning Ekiuto into a hub of culture and sustainability. With limited-time offerings such as the amazing "Deep Fried Leeks" and "Komatsuna Fried Rice Rolls," the commitment to promoting local agriculture is at the forefront, driving engagement while providing delicious food.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Ekiuto Omiya’s efforts exemplify sustainable practices in the culinary space, showcasing how small changes in shopping habits can lead to a significant positive impact on the environment. With workshops, local product offerings, and events centered around sustainability, the fair not only raises awareness about food waste but also encourages the community to enjoy a plethora of local delicacies.
This summer, Ekiuto Omiya becomes more than just a convenience for travelers; it evolves into a platform for promoting sustainable living and engaging the local community. Mark your calendars and visit Ekiuto Omiya to enjoy delectable foods, participate in workshops, and support local farmers and food producers. Don’t miss this opportunity to both enjoy and contribute to a more sustainable future!
