I-Grid Solutions, based in Minato, Tokyo, has collaborated with Plugo to introduce fast EV charging stations at Seiyu supermarket in Kodaira City, Tokyo, starting July 25. This initiative takes advantage of surplus solar energy to support the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs). Another installation is planned for Seiyu's Omori store by fall 2025.
Background to the Installation
The push for carbon neutrality by 2050 has heightened focus on EVs due to their zero-emission operation. However, the development of reliable charging infrastructure remains a significant challenge. Retail stores with integrated EV charging can serve as convenient charging locations for the local community, fostering greater accessibility and utility.
Seiyu has committed to facilitating EV infrastructure expansion as part of its corporate social responsibility, keeping in mind the anticipated rise in EV usage. I-Grid operates over 1,226 solar energy facilities across Japan, with a capacity of 300MW as of July 2025, primarily deployed on the rooftops of retail spaces, commercial venues, and logistics centers. They excel in providing solutions to maximize the usage of surplus energy that cannot be consumed onsite.
Overview of the Charging Facilities
The EV fast charging service allows users to utilize the surplus energy produced from solar installations, optimizing renewable energy usage.
- - Utilization Method: Users can either download the "My Plugo" app or access a designated guest-use website for process initiation and online payment.
- - Maximum Output: 50kW
- - Connector Type: CHAdeMO standard, compatible with many EVs in Japan (Tesla vehicles can also use it with an adapter).
- - Charging Cable Length: Approximately 5.5 meters
"My Plugo" is a comprehensive smartphone application that enhances the EV charging experience allowing users to search for stations, check availability, make reservations, and handle online payments without any sign-up or annual fees. Users can find the app at
My Plugo Service Site.
Commitment to Renewable Energy
I-Grid Solutions aspires to leverage its nationwide dispersed solar energy facilities to not only enhance the rates of renewable energy usage but also promote EV adoption and accelerate decarbonization efforts in local communities.
