Toyo Mebius Utilizes On-Site PPA Model for Renewable Energy
Toyo Mebius Co., a subsidiary of Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, is set to implement a groundbreaking initiative at its Takatsuki Logistics Center, located in Osaka, Japan. Starting in February 2026, the company plans to utilize renewable energy through an on-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model in collaboration with Tes Engineering Co. This model will facilitate a self-consumption solar power generation system aimed at advancing the company's environmental sustainability goals.
Purpose of the Initiative
Toyo Mebius is committed to realizing a decarbonized society. As part of its long-term environmental strategy, the Eco Action Plan 2030, the group has set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by the year 2030 (compared to 2019 levels) and aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Implementing a solar power generation system is a crucial step towards attaining these objectives.
Details of the Initiative
In partnership with Tes Engineering, a company specializing in renewable energy solutions, Toyo Mebius will install a self-consumption solar power generation system on the rooftop of its Takatsuki Logistics Center. Under the on-site PPA model, Tes Engineering will own and maintain the solar system while providing renewable electricity to Toyo Mebius. The solar power system is projected to have a capacity of approximately 2.3 megawatts (MW), with an estimated annual power generation of around 2.61 million kilowatt-hours (kWh). It is anticipated that this initiative will result in a reduction of approximately 1,101 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.
The generated electricity will primarily be utilized to power the logistics center's warehouse and office facilities. In addition to contributing to lower GHG emissions, this project offers the advantage of requiring no initial investment for the electricity-consuming entity (in this case, Toyo Mebius) while ensuring a stable power supply that is not influenced by fluctuations in electrical demand or fuel issues.
