A Lifeline for Venezuela: Airlifting $500,000 of Medical Supplies by Project C.U.R.E. and U.S. Partners

A Lifeline for Venezuela: Airlifting Hope and Healing

In a significant humanitarian effort, Project C.U.R.E., a Denver-based nonprofit, has collaborated with U.S. energy partners to deliver approximately $500,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies to various hospitals across Venezuela. This recent airlift, consisting of 30 pallets of crucial healthcare items, marks the organization's second shipment of this kind to the economically challenged nation.

The cargo was flown from Miami to Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas, embodying the collective commitment to bolster healthcare services in regions severely impacted by natural disasters. The items included specialized equipment for maternal and infant care, reflecting the urgent needs identified by local healthcare providers.

Addressing Local Needs

The supplies address dire needs in the aftermath of devastating earthquakes that have wreaked havoc on Venezuela's healthcare system, leading to significant shortages of essential medical resources. The shipment specifically targets four hospitals located in Caracas's Libertador Municipality, namely:
  • - Maternidad Concepción Palacios
  • - Hospital Materno Infantil de Caricuao
  • - Complejo Hospitalario José Ignacio Baldó (El Algodonal)
  • - Obstetrics service at Hospital Dr. José Gregorio Hernández

The comprehensive shipment included vital items such as orthopedic implants, surgical headlamps, diagnostic devices, and vital sign monitors. Each piece of equipment was purposely selected based on the pressing requests from the medical staff in these hospitals to ensure the needed resources were effectively directed to those who rely on them for survival.

The Role of Volunteers and Partners

An integral aspect of this mission was the dedication of volunteers, who contributed an astounding 1,100 hours toward sorting, packing, and preparing the medical supplies. Their collective efforts in Project C.U.R.E.'s Chicago distribution center enabled the successful loading of an entire 737 aircraft filled with much-needed medical equipment.

This airlift was financially supported by partners including Aspect Holdings, Formentera Partners, Hunt Oil Company, and Kavak Energy. The logistics were efficiently managed by Flexport, while Air Charter Service provided the necessary aircraft for the mission. Upon arrival in Venezuela, Caritas de Venezuela took charge of unloading and distributing the supplies, in a collaborative effort to enhance healthcare provisions alongside Venezuelan American Medical Association (VAMA).

A Testament to Human Compassion

The Managing Partner of Formentera Partners, Bryan Sheffield, expressed gratitude for the partnership with Project C.U.R.E., emphasizing the critical role of the energy industry in delivering vital medical supplies to the Venezuelan communities in distress. The collaboration highlighted the power of collective action in times of crisis and the steadfast commitment of numerous organizations to improve healthcare outcomes for affected populations.

Dr. Douglas Jackson, President and CEO of Project C.U.R.E., stated, "This endeavor illustrates the impact of generous partnerships and dedicated volunteers focused on a singular goal—ensuring that Venezuelan doctors and nurses have the necessary tools to provide care to their patients." He stressed the importance of addressing healthcare disparities, reiterating that geographic location should not dictate access to essential medical care.

Continuing Efforts to Support Healthcare

This shipment follows an earlier airlift by the organization in July 2026, which delivered over $775,000 worth of medical supplies following two catastrophic earthquakes. Over a span from 2016 to 2022, Project C.U.R.E. has sent multiple medical cargo containers valued at nearly $2 million to Venezuelan hospitals, reflecting a sustained commitment to improving healthcare in vulnerable communities.

Project C.U.R.E. continues to collaborate with partners to assess ongoing needs in Venezuelan healthcare and to facilitate additional shipments of necessary medical supplies. The organization remains dedicated to supporting local healthcare providers as they navigate the complexities of recovery and rebuilding in a post-disaster landscape, reinforcing their mission to deliver health and hope.
