Holland America Line Expands Access to Norway's Iconic Fjords in 2027

Holland America Line, a leader in cruise travel, is set to enhance its itineraries in 2027 with new access to some of Norway's most iconic fjords. This exciting update comes as the cruise line updates five of its sailings aboard the Rotterdam, allowing guests unprecedented opportunities to explore the stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Norway.

New Itineraries Unveiled

Starting in May 2027, the updated itineraries will feature newly added stops at Flåm and Hellesylt, both of which are gateways to Norway's dramatic and scenic fjord regions. These cruises will also include visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites, specifically the breathtaking Nærøyfjord and Storfjorden, known for their awe-inspiring beauty and serene environment.

According to Paul Grigsby, Holland America Line's Vice President of Deployment and Revenue Planning, Northern Europe has always been one of the most sought-after destinations in the fleet. The new itineraries emphasize both scenic cruising and rich history, integrating opportunities for guests to interact with Norway’s dramatic nature firsthand. As newcomers to these itineraries, stops in Flåm and Hellesylt promise to enhance the already vibrant fjord experience.

Exploring Norway's Fjords

Guests will have the chance to cruise through the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord, with its towering cliffs and tranquil waters, and will also have the opportunity to ride the iconic Flåmsbana Railway — a breathtaking railway journey renowned as one of the steepest in the world, bringing travelers through stunning landscapes that showcase Norway's mountains and deep valleys.

The five seven-day cruises departing from Rotterdam are scheduled for May 30, June 27, and August 1, 2027, and will include stops at prominent Norwegian cities such as Oslo, Kristiansand, Sandnes (Stavanger), and scenic cruising in beautiful locations including Sognefjord and Oslofjord.

For those eager to delve deeper into Norway's fjord country, two additional departures on July 25 and August 8, 2027, will include visits to Eidfjord, Ålesund, and Bergen — along with the chance to marinate in the scenery while cruising Storfjorden and Hardangerfjord.

Celebrating a Rich Maritime Heritage

Founded in Rotterdam in 1873, Holland America Line has over a century of experience in maritime travel—making this region intimately familiar to the team and the travelers who’ve sailed with them. Cruise options will range from seven-day trips to extended voyages of up to 21 days. Each journey promises to immerse passengers in the rich Viking heritage, gorgeous landscapes, and the unique Dutch roots of the cruise line itself.

As part of the 2027 season, guests can also enjoy the opportunity to partake in numerous shore excursions designed to give them an authentic taste of local culture and history. Whether it’s a guided tour through picturesque towns or engaging with the local communities, Holland America Line ensures that each guest leaves with valuable memories and insights.
