Strengthening Eco-Friendly Recycling Initiatives
Fujipco and Mandai are working closely together to promote the effective use of eco-friendly products through a comprehensive recycling strategy. This collaboration aims to transform used food trays into new ones, emphasizing a store-to-store recycling system across 170 locations in the Kansai area by January 2026.
The Store-to-Store Recycling Flow
The initiative involves customers returning their used food trays to Mandai stores, where collection boxes are set up for easy disposal. Fujipco takes these trays and recycles them into eco-friendly products, which are then reintegrated into Mandai's offerings. This circular process aims to reduce environmental impact by encouraging local community involvement in recycling.
Current Achievements and Goals
In February 2025, Mandai successfully collected 483 tons of used food trays, which helped cut down approximately 2,176 tons of CO2 emissions by using the recycled eco-products in their stores. Looking forward to February 2026, they anticipate collecting around 500 tons of used trays, further aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 2,300 tons through the same practices.
Future Targets
With the strengthened collaboration, Mandai is setting an ambitious goal to further enhance the use of eco-products, aiming for a reduction of 2,400 tons of CO2 emissions by February 2027. The company is committed to proactive public relations efforts to engage customers in recycling initiatives, including informative posters in stores and online activism on their website to raise awareness and increase collection quantities of used food trays.
