Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics Pre-Event in Shibuya

In a vibrant lead-up to the much-anticipated Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, Shibuya City will host a special event a month prior to the games on October 11, 2025. This celebration will take place at the SCC Sendagaya Community Center and aims to promote the excitement and diversity of Deaf sports while increasing awareness of communication methods amongst all attendees.

The event is designed to be inclusive and engaging for all ages, featuring a variety of booths that will allow participants to explore the world of Deaf sports through sign language seminars, writing workshops, and more. Collaborating with local students and organizations, the event will offer numerous interactive opportunities, such as sign language experiences and face painting activities, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the Deaf culture.

Event Highlights

Stage Program:

• - Sign Language Cheer Leading Workshop

Participants will learn how to cheer without sound! Led by Deaf students in preparation for the Deaflympics, this workshop will be based on Japanese sign languages.

• - Oioi Sign Language Entertainment Group Performance

A captivating fusion of sign language and entertainment, this workshop invites everyone to join in the fun of communication through Deaf culture.

• - Presentation by Shibuya Volunteer Training Initiative

Reflections on walk-around training sessions with Deaf individuals will inspire discussions on communication with people who have different languages and expressions.

• - Lecture by Deaf Soccer Coach Hayato Uematsu

Gain insights into preparing for the Deaflympics and learn about supporting the Deaf community and enhancing communication from coach Uematsu's extensive experience.

Booths Area:

The booths are designed to allow everyone, from kids to adults, to experience the charm of a soundless world. There will be participation from a range of groups including Deaf students, students from Aoyama Gakuin University’s sign language club, local sports teams, and Shibuya’s volunteer initiatives contributing to the Deaflympics.
