Bladex Shines at LatinFinance Awards 2025 for Groundbreaking Infrastructure Financing Achievements

Bladex Wins Two Prestigious Awards at LatinFinance Event 2025

The Latin American banking and finance sector has recently witnessed a remarkable achievement, as Bladex (Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior, S.A.) was awarded two prestigious honors at the 2025 LatinFinance Project & Infrastructure Finance Awards. The accolades included 'Loan of the Year' for its significant role in financing the Gran Morgu project in Suriname and 'Airport Financing of the Year' for their efforts in securing funding for Aerodomos Dominicanos (Aerodom) in the Dominican Republic.

Gran Morgu Project – A Milestone Financing

Bladex's significant accomplishment, recognized as 'Loan of the Year', showcases the backbone of collaborative financing in Latin America. Partnering with Staatsolie, Bladex successfully arranged a long-term secured financing package totaling USD 1.6 billion, augmented with an additional USD 125 million in credit facilities and hedging solutions. This robust financing structure will not only refinance existing debts but also support Staatsolie's strategic involvement in the landmark Gran Morgu project, situated in Block 58, off the coast of Suriname.

This transaction stands as the largest project financing undertaking in Suriname's history, marking a pivotal moment for the country as it transitions toward initial offshore oil production, projected for mid-2028. Through collaboration with Deutsche Bank and Afreximbank, alongside various international financial partners, Bladex's expertise exhibited in this project enhances its reputation for innovative financial solutions.

The Aerodom Financing Triumph

In a concurrent achievement, Bladex was distinguished with the 'Airport Financing of the Year' award for its pivotal role in structuring a USD 940 million financing plan for Aerodomos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom). The financing included USD 500 million raised via global bond issuance and a USD 440 million syndicated loan, dedicated to an ambitious airport modernization and expansion initiative within the Dominican Republic.

This substantial financial operation underscores Bladex’s commitment to uplifting the region’s logistic frameworks and enhancing air connectivity – a crucial step for the thriving tourism and trade sectors in the Dominican Republic. By fortifying Aerodom’s role as a strategic operator in the Caribbean, it reflects Bladex’s relentless pursuit of projects that promote sustainable economic growth in a highly competitive landscape.

Future Commitment and Vision

Expressing pride in these achievements, Samuel Canineu, Chief Commercial Officer of Bladex, articulated the significance of the awards. He stated, "This recognition from LatinFinance deeply honors us and reaffirms our ability to structure innovative financial solutions that not only mobilize capital but also generate transformative impacts in the countries of the region." Bladex remains dedicated to connecting opportunities while supporting sustainable development across Latin America, reinforcing its influence in the evolving landscape of project finance.
