Dechert Welcomes Back Josh Strathman to Enhance Finance Practice

In a significant move, Dechert LLP has announced the return of Josh Strathman as a partner within its global finance practice, as of June 4, 2026. This strategic appointment underscores the firm's commitment to bolster its asset finance and securitization capabilities. Strathman’s expertise will specifically focus on residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), asset-backed lending, and a variety of esoteric asset classes.

Operating from Dechert’s Los Angeles office, Strathman is set to play a pivotal role in enhancing the firm's footprint in the finance sector, particularly in areas experiencing sustained client demand. 'Josh understands the foundations of this firm and his return is a testament to the robust structure that Dechert has established in asset-backed finance,' commented David Forti, co-chair of Dechert.

Strathman's prior tenure at Dechert has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the firm’s operations and culture, which is expected to facilitate a seamless reintegration into the team. 'Having collaborated with him while he was previously here, we recognize the immense value he brings, which has grown significantly since his departure,' noted John Timperio, chair of Dechert's global finance and real estate practices.

In his new role, Strathman will advise a diverse set of stakeholders, including lenders, borrowers, and servicers, on asset-backed financing and securitizations that encompass a broad spectrum of asset classes. His experience extends to handling auto loans, equipment loans, credit card receivables, and, notably, esoteric sectors such as oil, gas, and cell phone equipment. His expertise also includes client advisory in commercial real estate repurchase agreements and loan portfolio acquisitions, which presents further opportunities for collaboration across various practice groups within the firm.

The decision for Strathman to return is aligned with Dechert's strategic objective of expanding its capabilities across critical sectors such as litigation, finance, and restructuring, particularly in the context of investment management and corporate finance. The firm has already seen an uptick in growth, having welcomed over 45 lateral partners this year alone.

Strathman’s appointment closely follows the recent addition of notable asset finance lawyer, Lawton Camp, who joined the global finance practice. Alongside the promotion of three lawyers to partnership earlier this year, Dechert has effectively expanded its asset finance and securitization group by five partners in 2026.

Dechert’s asset finance and securitization team is well-regarded for managing complex financings and securitizations across various asset classes. The firm routinely represents clients in the acquisition, servicing, and financing of asset classes ranging from auto loans to student loans, putting them at the forefront of the market as recognized by key industry rankings such as Chambers USA and The Legal 500 US.

The return of Josh Strathman to Dechert represents not just a revival of a familiar face but a strategic strengthening of the firm's assets in finance. His unique insights and prior relationships with clients are anticipated to yield impactful results as he integrates back into the dynamic environment of Dechert’s ambitious Los Angeles office. The firm's overarching goal of nurturing exceptional legal talent while enhancing client services is well on track, thanks to valuable additions like Strathman.
