On January 21, 2025, the Foundation For A Bright Future, a nonprofit organization founded by Louis Hernandez Jr., proudly announced the recipients of its 2024 Healthcare Scholarships. Aimed at supporting underrepresented and underprivileged children, these scholarships are awarded to exceptional students committed to pursuing careers in healthcare. This year, Aran Zakeri, Erin Nagai, Nathaniel Blackshear, and Nikita Nimmagadda have been selected as recipients.

Aran Zakeri


Aran Zakeri, a 20-year-old from California, is majoring in Human Biology at the University of California, San Diego. With a perfect GPA of 4.0, Aran's journey has not been easy. Born in Iran, he immigrated to the United States and has faced homelessness and rejection due to his sexuality. Despite these obstacles, he remains committed to healthcare. Aran has taken a proactive role in volunteering at various clinics and has founded the Undergraduate MD/PhD Society (UMPS), advocating for fellow healthcare professionals. "Receiving this scholarship for the second time is invaluable. It allows me to expand my nonprofit, empowering more underserved students to pursue MD/PhD careers,” he stated.

Erin Nagai


At just 18, Erin Nagai from California is excelling at Brown University, where she studies Psychology and Pharmacology, boasting a weighted GPA of 4.75. Erin's experience as a caregiver for her autistic brother has instilled in her a deep desire to make a positive impact in her community. Overcoming personal trauma, including domestic violence, Erin remains focused on her goal of fostering change. "Being awarded this scholarship brings me joy and motivation, as it propels me toward my academic and career aspirations," Erin expressed.

Nathaniel Blackshear


Nathaniel Blackshear, 19, from Texas, is on a path to become a Nurse Anesthetist while studying nursing at Texas AM University with a perfect GPA of 4.0. Nathaniel's life has been marked by tragedy, including the loss of his mother and experiences of homelessness. Despite these hardships, he has emerged as a leader in both music and healthcare clubs at his university. Nathaniel recognizes the profound impact of the scholarship on his life chances. "This award is crucial for achieving my academic and career objectives, bringing me closer to providing equitable healthcare services to underserved communities," he said.

Nikita Nimmagadda


Nikita, an 18-year-old from Alabama, is pursuing Pediatrics at New York University. Coming from a single-parent household, she has always prioritized caring for her mother and brother, both of whom are on the spectrum. Nikita is determined to shape healthcare policies to improve service accessibility for vulnerable populations. "This scholarship enables me to pursue my goal of impacting rural and underserved areas positively," Nikita stated.

Foundation's Mission


Founded by Louis Hernandez Jr., the Foundation For A Bright Future is a beacon of hope for children in disadvantaged circumstances.
