Givebutter's Initiative Boosts Black Philanthropy Month to Enhance Funding for Black Organizations
Givebutter Supports Black Philanthropy Month 2025
As the United States grapples with inequities in philanthropic funding, Givebutter steps up to champion Black-led organizations during Black Philanthropy Month this August. With only 1.3% of total philanthropic funding directed toward Black communities, the need for equitable support has never been more pressing. This initiative not only highlights the significance of funding but also seeks to connect Black-led nonprofits with vital resources and wider audiences.
The State of Black Philanthropy
The year 2020 saw an increase in philanthropic commitments towards Black communities, yet the percentage has since dwindled. Dr. Tiara Moore, CEO of Black in Marine Science (BIMS) and a significant advocate for equity, shared her concerns: “Four years ago marks the first time we saw meaningful funding for Black-led organizations. Today, systemic barriers continue to impede our progress.” Such challenges resonate deeply, as many Black nonprofits struggle to attract new donors in an increasingly challenging landscape.
Givebutter's Role in Driving Change
In alignment with the needs of these nonprofits, Givebutter proudly supports BackBlack's official campaign for Black Philanthropy Month. Through its 'Givebutter Gives Back' initiative, the platform will offer not just educational resources but also crucial financial assistance, contributing $10,000 to Black-led organizations. This includes $1,000 each to the top ten campaigns demonstrating exceptional engagement.
Floyd Jones, founder of BackBlack and global chair of Black Philanthropy Month, stresses the importance of visibility for these communities. “People who look like me are often unseen and unsupported,” he reflects. By leveraging Givebutter’s comprehensive fundraising tools, Jones believes nonprofits can not only increase their visibility but also enhance their connection with potential donors.
Empowering Nonprofits with Resources
Givebutter’s suite of tools allows nonprofits to modernize their fundraising efforts. Dr. Tiara Moore, who has seen firsthand the transformation through Givebutter's platform, expresses gratitude for the opportunity to focus more on fundraising without the previously daunting obstacles. “The technology creates a more enjoyable experience centered on our goal to raise funds for our communities,” she states.
The sharing of timely, relevant messages to donors, alongside integrating donation options through various channels, facilitates a more significant outreach and encourages donations at critical moments during August.

Black Philanthropy Month, running from August 1 to 31, is an opportunity for Black-led nonprofits to connect with potential donors and enhance their fundraising strategies. Max Friedman, CEO of Givebutter, expresses enthusiasm for this year’s campaigns, stating, “We are honored to act as a hub for the inspiring initiatives that seek to make the world a better place.” To find participating organizations and additional resources, individuals can visit BackBlackMovement.org, where stories of resilience and support within the Black philanthropic community can inspire further engagement.
In summary, as Givebutter fosters a brighter path for Black nonprofits, it exemplifies the potential for technology to bridge funding gaps and amplify voices that have historically been silenced. By supporting these organizations through Black Philanthropy Month, stakeholders are encouraged to uplift their communities and advocate for change, proving that meaningful contributions can lead us all towards a more equitable future.
