The highly anticipated Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2026 (SSFF & ASIA) is set to kick off on May 25th, with a star-studded opening ceremony that promises to be a highlight for film enthusiasts. Among the exciting features, rookie director Kuruma from Reiwa Roman will be presenting his debut film, 'BREAK SHOT', alongside co-stars and notable figures from the film industry.

Special Guests and Film Highlights

Kuruma, who is well-known for his unique comedic stylings as part of the Reiwa Roman comedy duo, has transitioned into the director's chair for the first time. 'BREAK SHOT', described as a black comedy filmed entirely from the perspective of a drive recorder, takes the audience on a thrilling ride through a seemingly ordinary night on a congested highway. The narrative evolves through seemingly unrelated dialogues among passengers, highlighting Kuruma’s innovative storytelling skills.

In addition to Kuruma, co-stars such as Tomohiro Kodama from the group Salgorira and fellow Reiwa Roman member Kemuri Matsui will be present at the ceremony. Matsui will participate only in the red carpet segment, making his appearance even more exclusive. Previously announced guests for the opening ceremony include actresses Aoi Morikawa, Oshiro Maeda, and Yuto Endo, ensuring a dynamic mix of talent on stage.

Fans of animation and Japanese cinema can also expect a special screening of 'Symphony No. 0', directed by renowned composer Yugo Kanno.
