Special Noh Theater Performance
The much-anticipated special performance of the ancient Japanese classics "Nihon no Hajimari" and "Genji Monogatari" will take place on December 6 and 7, 2025, at the Umewaka Noh Theater in Higashinakano, Tokyo. This event is proudly presented by the certified NPO, TOKYO NOVYI・ART, which has been a beacon of cultural preservation since its founding in 2004 by a group of actors led by the Russian Honored Artist, Leonid Anisimov.
A Celebration of Heritage
The decision to present both of these iconic works aims to evoke a sense of Japanese heritage in our rapidly changing modern world. The performance of "Nihon no Hajimari" holds special significance, as this year's production serves not only as a dramatic theatrical experience but as a heartfelt tribute to the late author, Toji Kamata, who passed away in May. This marks the first performance of this play in Japan since its last international staging seven years ago.
With the support of many patrons and artists, the "Genji Monogatari," based on the classic work by Murasaki Shikibu and adapted by Yuka Nakazawa, made its debut last year to resounding applause. The performance promises to transport audiences to a world of aesthetic beauty and emotional depth, central to Japanese literature.
