DeTect to Provide Advanced Bird Detection Radar at Soekarno-Hatta Airport

In a groundbreaking development for aviation safety, DeTect, Inc. has been awarded the contract for its cutting-edge MERLIN 7360 True3D Bird Detection Radar (BDR) system to be installed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia. This system is set to enhance the airport's wildlife management program significantly, providing real-time alerts for air traffic control and ground operations.

The MERLIN radar is recognized as one of the most advanced bird detection systems available globally, with over 600 units in operation worldwide, primarily for aviation safety and wildlife protection. Originally developed for the United States Air Force and NASA, the technology is now adopted by various international airports across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. This new installation marks a pivotal step forward in ensuring safe air travel by minimizing wildlife hazards.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport, being one of the busiest in Southeast Asia, is set to incorporate seven units of the True3D radar. This setup will provide a complete 360-degree view of the airfield and surrounding airspace, enabling automatic visualization and alerts of high-risk bird activity. The alerts will be accessible through monitors placed in the wildlife control vehicles and the airport's control tower, improving the operational response to potential hazards.

Manufactured in the United States, this project will be overseen by DeTect's regional office based in South Korea, ensuring smooth implementation and continuous support.
