Autism United of Wisconsin Launches Enhanced Services for Neurodiverse Individuals in 2025

Autism United of Wisconsin: A New Era in Autism Advocacy

On February 5, 2025, a significant transformation will take place in the realm of autism advocacy in Wisconsin. Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin (ASSEW) is officially rebranding as Autism United of Wisconsin (AUW), marking a new chapter in its mission to serve the Neurodiverse community across the state.

Commitment to the Community

The primary aim of AUW is to extend its outreach and support to all 72 counties in Wisconsin, providing a variety of services for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. As stated by Rechelle Chaffee, the Executive Director, “Our mission at Autism United remains as it always has been the past 50 years we've served the Neurodiverse communities of Wisconsin. We are committed to providing a better life and brighter future for everyone impacted by Autism — together, today and tomorrow.” This commitment is vital as the state has historically seen fragmentation among its autism organizations.

Unification and Collaboration

The rebranding process follows extensive negotiations with Autism Society of America (ASA) which lasted more than 18 months. The goal was to unite the fragmented affiliates within the state to foster improved care and outcomes for individuals and families affected by autism. Despite these efforts being ultimately rejected, AUW has chosen a path that promotes unity and better service.

A Bright Future Ahead

AUW, now officially recognized as a 501(c)3 charitable organization, assures its participants that all current memberships and services provided by ASSEW will remain accessible. The new website, www.Autism-United.org, serves as a resource for individuals wanting to engage with the organization, whether through membership or by initiating local support groups.

Future Initiatives

The organization has plans for several exciting initiatives aimed at enhancing outreach and communication. This includes a Statewide Autism Conference scheduled for July 11-12 at the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Alongside, AUW will introduce new video programming, podcast series, and expanded newsletters containing critical national information, research, and events pertinent to the autism community.
Moreover, opportunities for virtual engagement will be available for individuals across various demographics, including autistic children, teens, adults, families, educators, and volunteers.

Conclusion: A New Direction

Autism United of Wisconsin is positioning itself as a leader in autism advocacy and support through this bold rebranding initiative. As it embarks on this journey, the commitment to serve the Neurodiverse population remains at the forefront. Individuals looking to ensure their voices are heard while accessing valuable resources can do so through the new framework provided by AUW.
