Unveiling the upHear Flexible Rendering Technology for Immersive Sound at CES 2025

StreamUnlimited and Fraunhofer IIS Unveil upHear Flexible Rendering at CES 2025

At the upcoming CES 2025, StreamUnlimited Engineering will showcase an innovative technology called upHear Flexible Rendering in collaboration with Fraunhofer IIS, aimed at transforming home audio experiences. This cutting-edge development allows for optimized sound quality using as few as three speakers, regardless of their configuration, creating an immersive auditory experience.

Markus Rutz, the Chief Technology Officer at StreamUnlimited, expressed enthusiasm for the inclusion of Fraunhofer's upHear technology not only during their CES demonstration but also as part of their core software stack, StreamSDK. This integration facilitates developers in utilizing the technology for new audio solutions right now. Rutz mentioned, "The integration of LE Audio enhances our offering, providing various connectivity options beyond traditional methods, catering to the growing demand for innovative transmission technologies."

As part of their CES 2025 demonstration, StreamUnlimited will highlight LE Audio integration, enhancing connectivity for home listening setups. This integration allows for flexible speaker arrangements, as it supports the use of compatible rear and satellite speakers in conjunction with established Wi-Fi and UWB (Ultra Wideband). The Auracast feature enables broadcasts to multiple devices simultaneously, making it ideal for both commercial uses, like retail environments, and private consumption, such as airport headphone links.

The StreamSDK not only includes robust support for popular music services and audio codecs but also extends to smart home protocols and voice assistants. Additionally, the accompanying hardware module, Stream1955, is part of a larger suite designed to empower brands in creating durable, upgradeable audio products.

Transforming the Home Audio Landscape

The upHear Flexible Rendering technology is anticipated to revolutionize home audio setups. It achieves this by dynamically adjusting to various speaker configurations and simplifying the integration or removal of audio devices. This adaptability is particularly beneficial for modern households that leverage smart technology, ensuring a superior immersive sound experience.

Bernhard Grill, the director of Fraunhofer IIS, spoke highly of the partnership with StreamUnlimited, emphasizing the synergy between their innovative approaches and technology. "Collaborating with StreamUnlimited allows us to bring advanced audio capabilities to market more effectively, as their commitment to excellence aligns with our goals," stated Grill.
