The Parkinson's Revolution: United Against Parkinson's Disease in 24 Cities
The Parkinson's Foundation is proud to announce the upcoming Parkinson's Revolution, a nationwide indoor and virtual cycling experience, scheduled for Saturday, February 22. This thrilling event will take place in 24 locations across the United States, bringing together individuals passionate about fighting Parkinson's disease (PD) and supporting those affected by it.
Parkinson's Revolution is designed as an intense and energetic indoor cycling event that goes beyond just exercise. It aims to raise both funds and awareness for a condition that dramatically impacts the lives of approximately one million Americans living with Parkinson's disease. Each year, around 90,000 new cases are diagnosed, and projections indicate that this number could rise to 1.2 million by 2030.
John L. Lehr, the President and CEO of the Parkinson's Foundation, emphasizes the importance of this event: "Parkinson's Revolution not only brings people together to help fight Parkinson's, but it also celebrates the power of exercise, helping those living with PD lead high-quality lives today. As the event enters its fifth year, we are excited to offer even more opportunities for the PD community to move together towards a future without Parkinson's."
This event is inclusive, welcoming riders of all skill levels to participate and contribute to the cause. The program includes a high-energy indoor cycling ride, opening and closing ceremonies, and an informative session allowing participants to learn more about Parkinson's disease. Through participation, attendees will directly support the Foundation's vital mission of enhancing care and promoting research for a potential cure. Furthermore, local PD communities will benefit from additional resources aimed at improving quality of life.
Those interested in joining this impactful event can easily register online for a local session. For those who prefer to cycle from home, options are available to ride virtually, allowing participants to connect with the national team – Parkinson's Revolution USA. Whether cycling solo or forming teams with friends and family, participants have the opportunity to unite and support the Parkinson’s community.
Since its inception in 2020, Parkinson's Revolution has become one of the Parkinson's Foundation's flagship events, successfully raising over $2 million cumulatively. This funding has significantly contributed to ongoing research and initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of those battling Parkinson's throughout the nation.
The Parkinson's Foundation is dedicated to making life better for individuals living with the disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. Since its establishment in 1957, the Foundation has invested more than $474 million into research and clinical care initiatives, building a robust global community around the fight against Parkinson's disease. About Parkinson's Disease:
Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects an estimated one million Americans and 10 million individuals worldwide. It ranks as the second-most common neurodegenerative disease, just after Alzheimer's, and stands as the 14th leading cause of death in the United States. Symptoms can include a gradual loss of motor control, such as tremors or a lack of facial expression, along with a range of non-motor symptoms, including anxiety and depression. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure, and new diagnoses continue to rise each year.
