OnPoint Community Credit Union Welcomes Damian Laviolette as New CIO

OnPoint Community Credit Union is excited to announce the recent promotion of Damian Laviolette to Chief Information Officer (CIO). This move comes after an extensive search for top talent, reflecting the credit union’s commitment to technological advancement and cybersecurity.

Who is Damian Laviolette?

Damian Laviolette, a seasoned expert in both technology and cybersecurity, has been with OnPoint since 2022, initially serving as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer. His impressive career spans over 30 years across various sectors, including financial services, government, and defense. Prior to joining OnPoint, Laviolette held significant roles such as Senior Vice President and CISO at Webster Bank and Vice President of Network Security Operations at Umpqua Bank.

Key Responsibilities as CIO

In his new role, Laviolette will direct OnPoint’s information technology and digital banking teams. His focus will be on driving innovation across technology, enhancing member services, and bolstering the credit union's cybersecurity infrastructure. Laviolette's extensive expertise in risk management and operational excellence positions him uniquely to lead the organization’s technology strategy, particularly as OnPoint seeks to expand its digital offerings.

Rob Stuart, President and CEO of OnPoint, expressed enthusiasm about Laviolette assuming this pivotal leadership role. He emphasized that Laviolette’s deep knowledge in information security and commitment to operational excellence make him the ideal leader for the organization’s technological transformation.

Laviolette's Career Highlights

Before taking on the role of CIO, Laviolette garnered significant experience leading IT and security teams responsible for innovation, compliance, and risk management. Notably, he served for 20 years in the United States Army, culminating in his role as Chief Warrant Officer in the Signal Corps, where he oversaw technology and cybersecurity efforts.

Beyond his professional qualifications, Laviolette is committed to community engagement alongside his wife and is an advocate for outdoor activities with his three children, enjoying hiking, traveling, and deep-sea fishing. He holds a master's degree in information security and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Looking Ahead

Laviolette’s ascension to CIO follows the planned retirement of Jim Armstrong, the current Chief Operations Officer, set for April 2025. Armstrong has led operations, payments, and project management and will ensure a smooth transition before Laviolette takes over these responsibilities. The succession is designed to maintain the strong foundation laid by Armstrong, ensuring OnPoint's continued growth and innovation.
