HAKOMART 2026: A Fusion of Creativity and Craft in Paper Box Design
The Japanese packaging company Morita, founded in 1932 in Sapporo, is set to host the paper box design exhibition and pop-up event titled
HAKOMART 2026 in Tokyo. This event will run from
September 17 to September 29, 2026, at
THINK OF THINGS, a lifestyle shop and café in Sendagaya, Tokyo. This marks the return of HAKOMART after an eight-year hiatus, with a focus on the theme
'Nokosu', which translates to 'to leave behind'.
A Creative Revival of Paper Importance
In today’s world of increasing digitization and the movement toward paperless solutions, the role of paper products has undergone a significant transformation. No longer just materials for transport and storage, paper is being re-evaluated for its emotional resonance and tactile value. Morita seeks to transition the perception of paper boxes from simple packaging supplies to meaningful products that encapsulate memories and emotions.
The HAKOMART 2026 aims to merge this idea with next-generation creative impulses, showcasing 11 outstanding creators from Hokkaido, Tokyo, and Toyama. Each artist will interpret what they believe should be preserved for the future. The event promises to shed light on the interplay between design, structure, and materiality in paper boxes.
