The Launch of Samurai Salmon
Kakujo Fishery Holdings has officially unveiled the "Samurai Salmon", a domestically farmed Atlantic salmon, at its stores across Japan. Cultivated by Proxymer Japan, a subsidiary of a Norwegian company, this new breed promises exceptional quality and freshness thanks to its innovative land-based farming techniques.
A Remarkable Journey to Market
The journey of Samurai Salmon began when Proxymer achieved commercial shipment of domestic Atlantic salmon in September 2024. As of August 3, 2026, it became available in Kakujo stores, marking a pivotal moment in Japanese aquaculture. After a temporary halt in sales due to challenges in supply and distribution, the re-launch of Samurai Salmon has been much anticipated.
This salmon is not just any ordinary fish. Exceptionally plump and rich in flavor, Samurai Salmon is ideal for various dishes, including sashimi, sushi, and more. At Kakujo Fishery, we strive to deliver top-notch, safe, and high-quality domestic seafood to our customers.
Environmentally Friendly Farming
Located in Oyama, Shizuoka Prefecture, Proxymer employs a Closed-Loop Aquaculture System (RAS) for farming Samurai Salmon, ensuring that it remains unaffected by ocean pollution or microplastics. The clean waters surrounding Mount Fuji provide the fish with a high-quality environment, allowing them to thrive. Each fish is harvested weighing approximately 3 to 5 kg, offering a firm texture and delightful taste that seafood enthusiasts will love.
The Freshness Advantage
Unlike imported salmon from Nordic countries or Chile, which generally requires over 30 hours to reach Japan, Samurai Salmon can be delivered fresh to consumers in under 10 hours—making the freshness undeniably superior. This difference in time has a direct impact on the taste, with Samurai Salmon exhibiting a perfectly firm texture, allowing for an enjoyable eating experience.
