During the first half of the webinar, Dr. Hideya Sakaguchi, a prominent figure from the National Center for Child Health and Development, will deliver a talk discussing the foundations of neuro-organoid creation rooted in developmental biology, and the promising applications for drug development. Following this, the webinar will feature Thomas Mitchell and Ernst Wolvetang from The Organoid Company, who will introduce their groundbreaking automated technologies for the mass production of organoids aimed at toxicity testing.

Finally, the session will wrap up with a presentation from Sumitomo Bakelite, detailing the product range that supports organoid research.

Speaker Introductions


Dr. Hideya Sakaguchi


Position: Director, Experimental Pharmacology Research Laboratory, National Center for Child Health and Development
Dr. Sakaguchi is a distinguished researcher who graduated from Kumamoto University in 2008. After working as a clinical doctor, he transitioned to basic research at RIKEN. He earned his PhD from Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine in 2016 and has been instrumental in creating successful neuro-organoid models. He holds numerous accolades, including awards from the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine.

Thomas Mitchell


Position: CEO & Co-founder, The Organoid Company
Mr. Mitchell is a seasoned executive in the biotech field, specializing in drug development. He played a pivotal role at Finch Therapeutics and co-led collaborations with Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Currently, as CEO of The Organoid Company, he strives to resolve bottlenecks in automated organoid production.

Ernst Wolvetang


Position: CSO & Co-founder, The Organoid Company
Mr. Wolvetang is a leading expert in stem cell biology and organoid development. After obtaining his PhD from the University of Amsterdam, he became a pioneer in human embryonic stem cell research in Australia. He also leads the Queensland University Stem Cell Engineering Laboratory and oversees the Australian Organoid Facility.
