Geekplus Revolutionizes Cold Chain Automation with Multi-Zone Pallet System

Breakthrough in Cold Chain Automation

In an era where automation is reshaping industries, Geekplus, a leader in warehouse robotics, has rolled out an unprecedented solution for cold chain logistics. The company has launched the world's first pallet-to-person system specifically designed for automated operations in refrigerated and deep-freeze environments, paving a new way in temperature-controlled logistics.

This cutting-edge system is operational at the JJCL (Jinjiang Cold Logistics) facility, a significant player in cold chain logistics, where it has dramatically improved operational efficiency across its expansive 2,700 square meters of floor space. Capable of maneuvering pallets within a temperature range from -18 °C to +5 °C, this system represents the first commercially viable deployment of fully automated multi-temperature pallet handling in the logistics sector.

Despite automation transforming many logistics areas, traditional cold storage has lagged, primarily due to harsh temperature conditions and technical challenges. The SkyCube system developed by Geekplus addresses these issues head-on. It employs frost-resistant technology alongside a coordinated fleet of high-density pallet storage robots that are fully operational at temperatures as low as -18 °C. Additionally, P800 robots work in chilled zones ranging from 0 °C to 5 °C, complemented by high-speed elevators and a unified software platform designed for continuous operation in freezing conditions.

Liu Kai, the system leader at Geekplus, emphasizes the importance of automation in the cold chain sector. “Cold chain logistics is no longer an exception to automation; it is the future,” he asserts. “Our systems are designed to operate where other systems fail. With our multi-temperature-capable robotics, we redefine how food, pharmaceuticals, and refrigerated inventories can scale reliably and efficiently.”

The collaboration between Geekplus and JJCL encompasses multiple facilities across seven branches, boasting a total cold storage capacity exceeding 560,000 m³. This partnership aims to modernize operations and meet increasing demand in the sector. Since its implementation, the SkyCube system has led to a remarkable 70% increase in storage capacity, improved picking efficiency by 90%, and achieved accuracy levels of 99.99%. Furthermore, safety protocols have been elevated as the automation minimizes human exposure to extreme cold through the complete mechanization of cold zone handling.

Kai further highlights the growing global demand for cold chain services, stating that this innovative system provides a scalable model for third-party logistics providers, grocery retailers, and pharmaceutical companies facing regulatory compliance and operational challenges. “This system is not just an improvement; it's a category shift in how we manage cold chain logistics,” he concludes.

Geekplus has solidified its position as a global leader in autonomous mobile robotics (AMR), serving more than 770 clients across over 40 countries, focusing on warehouse automation in diverse sectors, including retail, logistics, food, and healthcare. This pivotal development in cold chain automation is setting a new standard in the industry, making the path ahead more secure and efficient for all stakeholders involved.
