Secual, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, and GMS Collaboration
Secual, Inc. has officially announced a strategic alliance with Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. and Global Mobility Service, Inc. to develop a new security service called "Secual Smart Security," aimed at creating a zero-car theft society. This innovative service is slated for launch on August 7, 2025.
In recent years, there has been a troubling increase in vehicle thefts utilizing electronic methods, such as the Game Boy and CAN invader techniques. According to the National Police Agency, the expected number of car thefts in 2024 is approximately 6,080, with more than 70% of these incidents targeting locked vehicles. The speed and organization of these crimes have also escalated, with some cases of theft reported to occur within just one minute.
Consequently, insurance payouts related to vehicle theft have seen a yearly increase. The General Insurance Association of Japan estimates that, in 2024, the average payout per incident will reach around 2.815 million yen. This growing financial burden not only puts pressure on insurance companies to respond to theft incidents but also highlights the necessity for prevention measures before accidents occur.
Given this backdrop, the three companies have forged a partnership to implement a pioneering security model that integrates prevention, mobility, and insurance to create a theft-free vehicle society.
About 'Secual Smart Security' and Its Features
Secual has previously provided the "Secual Home" service, a smart home security solution that can be easily installed to protect residences. This time, in collaboration with GMS, Secual is leveraging GMS's remote control technology for vehicles. Together, they have become the sole partner in offering this technology for vehicle security purposes. The service allows users to operate both home and vehicle security systems through a single smartphone app, marking the world’s first collaboration of its kind.
